Cold War’s singleplayer is it’s own troubling thing, and Brendan’s campaign review does an excellent job dissecting its many flaws. Thankfully, the multiplayer component is self-contained. It’s still this familiar crashing of bullets and bodies, where lobbies merge into one another and people named “xXup_the_goochXx” spew insults at “kevinheadshotyournan1994” in between matches. If you’ve never been a Call Of Duty fan, I can’t see this converting you. But, if you’re a lapsed veteran or have been craving a subtle change in the formula, then it’ll do the trick....

A word of warning is appropriate here, however. In order to play this deck effectively, you’ll have to juggle a lot of unknown variables that will present themselves throughout the course of each match. It’s hard to make the right decisions at the right time with this deck, and a lot of the meta will be able to rush you down before you have the chance to respond. Made by fans who did this with Crusader Kings 2 before, the CK3 To EU4 Converter lets you generate a new EU4 starting scenario from a CK3 save. It’ll try to convert your map, countries, cultures, religions, rulers, heirs, advisors, vassals, empires, and a few other bits as best as it can to fit into, y’know, a different game with different rules. It cannot be exactly the same, but it’ll broadly reflect the state of the world....

Earlier on February 11th, 1,320,219 people were playing CS:GO simultaneously according to Steam’s own stats. That beats the previous record of 1,308,963 from April 2020. You can see the historic data most easily via SteamDB. I think it would be reasonable to speculate that the peak in April 2020 was prompted in part by a global pandemic increasing player counts across gaming in general. The latest peak is harder to diagnose, although there was an update yesterday which introduced new community-made weapon finished and stickers....

Now, that joke is probably going to become, “But can it run Crysis Remastered?”, which arrives on the Epic Games Store tomorrow, September 18th. With support for 8K textures, software-driven ray tracing, real-time reflections and loads more, developer Crytek and partner Saber Interactive have given the 2007 original quite the new coat of graphical paint - and I got to speak with Crysis Remastered’s project lead Steffen Halbig ahead of the game’s launch to talk all about it....

Update 2 has made many tweaks to the AI which, combined, should mean that NPCs will spot you more easily when you’re trying to be sneaky, and try harder to murder you once they do know you’re around. These include: Sure, Colt can hold his own in a fight, but that fight might start a lot sooner—and with you in a worse position—if you don’t account for the improved behaviour....

In short, it’s a strategy game where you take on the running of a country, running it however you please, and trying to get: 1) re-elected; 2) un-assassinated. Juggle budgets, time, demands, pressures, spin, and such, and try not to stuff it up. Or do try to stuff it up, to see what happens in Positech’s understanding of the world. “If you want to turn your country into Ayn Rand’s fantasy, abolish all public spending and all taxes, you can do that,” Positech say....

Following its early debut on phones, Golf On Mars arrived on Steam this Friday. It is, very much, more Desert Golfing’s wonderfully simple click-n-drag swinging - but a little cleaner, a little smoother, and with what feels like a slight floatiness to account for our crimson neighbour’s lower gravity. It does appear the procedural holes have been pushed further this time ‘round, mind. Terrain is smoother, weirder, and players won’t be progressing together through the same sequence of holes....

Resurrected pretties up ye olde game with new 3D art to replace the old sprites and such, but is still Diablo 2 v1.14 at heart. And unlike the Warcraft 3 remaster, D2 Resurrected won’t replace the original game. If you own it, you’ll still be able to play it same as ever. And apparently the two are so similar at heart, you can load original saves into the remaster. I have been impressed by Blizzard’s commitment to the old style, going so far as to dig up the old 3D models used to create the originals spirites then reworking into new models - Tyrael’s glorious wings are straight from that 3D model....

Now that Diablo 4 has been announced (in 2019) and we’ve seen all the ways it’s catering to fans of classic Diablo 2, perhaps the world is ready for Immortals.
