The new area is Enkanomlya, which exists underground and is entered via a deep pool in Inazuma. You need to be adventure rank 30 to access it. It’s a good example of what Genshin does well, wringing atmosphere out of relatively simple building blocks. The whole of Enkanomlya seems coated in fog and lit in cool blues by glowing plants....

The Vive Cosmos Elite is one of the newest members of HTC’s Vive Cosmos family, and gives users the option of playing games with more accurate external tracking via its two SteamVR base stations as well as the wire-free internal tracking offered by the regular Cosmos. This is thanks to the Elite’s modular external tracking face plate design, which it comes pre-installed with in the box. Then, if you’d rather switch to internal tracking for other games and VR experiences, then all you need to do is pop the external tracking face plate off and stick the regular Cosmos face plate on instead....

Developers Tango Gameworks are best known for gruesome horror series The Evil Within, and studio founder Shinji Mikami is best known for gruesome horror series Resident Evil. Ghostwire: Tokyo isn’t a Mikami-directed game, however. In an interview with VG247 today, Mikami spoke about founding Tango Gameworks with the desire to highlight the “outstanding talent of young creators.” And Ghostwire: Tokyo isn’t a horror game, either, despite drawing on ghosts and creepy Japanese folklore....

Goat Simulator 3 follows Pilgor the goat as they set off for the island of San Angora, which devs Coffee Stain say has “mysteries that need solving, chaos that needs causing, and friendships that need breaking”. Sounds like Goat Simulator alright. If you grab the pre-order version, dubbed Pre-Udder Edition, you’ll get some in-game jiggling udders. Yep, deffo sounds like Goat Simulator’s back. “I wouldn’t exactly say we’re ‘proud’ to be bringing Pilgor’s antics back to players in November, but that’s definitely what we’re doing,” Coffee Stain North’s creative director Santiago Ferrero said....

I thought of ARK this week because I’ve been having a poke around the edge of Path Of Titans, the latest game promising the seemingly impossible goal of a vaguely realistic, yet still entertaining dinosaur simulator. ARK was never meant to be particularly realistic, I’ll admit. But in its early days it was certainly entertaining, and it had dinosaurs coming out of its ears. Sure, the character customisation options only let you make eerily hideous muscle lords, and the game was a proper Jankenstein’s monster, but it was overflowing with the roughest of rough charms....

Detention has you play as two classmates that are tasked with figuring out why their school has been overrun by ghosts and ghoulies called The Lingered. You get to the bottom of things by, firstly, running the hell away from the nasty creatures that roam the halls, and secondly, by solving a series of adventure game-like puzzles. You’ll be able to tell when the unpleasant folks are near, as scrawls, scratches and snarls drift in and out of your headphones....

The game bounces between explosive set pieces, unsettling, almost survival horror exploration, and tear jerking bro moments. This wild oscillation would throw most games off balance, but Gears handles it beautifully. Come to think of it, this focus on movement is what makes Gears so special. Not only in relation to pacing, but in how these burly meatheads pull off jumping forward rolls like it’s nothing and slam into cover with a buttery smoothness....

Do you know what awaits atop the mountain in Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy? Past all the nonsensical detritus, and after every snippet of Foddy’s philosophical musing? I do. Not because I climbed it, obviously. I’m a coward who relies on the internet for answers. If you’re still convinced you’re going to get there under your own steam one day, read no further. I doubt this is still the case, but you used to earn a quick chat with Bennet Foddy himself....

Fast forward to today, when the entire country has practically gone into lockdown, and it’s taken on quite a different meaning. If someone discovered my home 300 years from now, what conclusions would they draw from it? Would they marvel at the mountains of old graphics cards stuck in my office, or would they do a big yikes at the equally tall piles of empty Rennie packets we have strewn about the house?...

343 have given some updates on progress towards the Halo 2 Anniversary release following the public-ish beta (what they call “flights”) from two weeks ago. Apparently 343 ended up inviting two large groups of players to the Halo 2 flight and were able to resolve a number of issues during the second group’s participation. After what sounds like a good round of testing, they say “if all goes according to plan it shouldn’t be too much longer now before Halo 2 officially releases on PC....

Many people don’t seem to like this, which I totally understand. But a part of me wishes these rude marketing emails were more of a thing. The pitch is that you design a cult HQ and recruit acolytes to your ‘cause’ while dealing with the nosey press (ugh, hate those guys) and rival heretics.
