Let’s start with the biggie. Just Cause 4 is a man-walking-away-from-explosions simulator, but it’s also a man-driving-towards-tornados simulator. The game’s increasingly superhero-ish protagonist, Rico Rodriguez, has no equal at this point. He can basically fly, and his weaponry wouldn’t be out of place on Thanos’s fist, so now he has to fight the weather. The format might be tired, but the huge tropical islands are gorgeous, the grappling hooks are never boring, and watching the huge, swirling wind funnels pick up an entire airport worth of planes is still fun....

There are four different difficulty levels in Kena: Bridge Of Spirits, and each one has an effect on how you build up (or lose) Courage, which is what powers Kena’s abilities. Each level of difficulty also increases the challenge by making enemies more aggressive and deal more damage to Kena, meaning you’ll need to be careful and clever and make use of all your attack types, from Rot Hammer to Spirit Bow, in order to survive the more dangerous encounters and boss fights on the higher difficulty levels....

Now it has a demo up on Steam. You can seemingly use the sliding platforms to find new routes forward, to kite enemies around or trap them on inescapable platforms, and to dodge their attacks. I’m curious whether it’s potent enough to last a full game, but that’s what the demo should help answer. The demo features the tutorial and two short levels. While, as noted, the dungeons are normally procedurally generated, the demo is locked to a single seed so the levels are the same every time....
The open beta weekend starts at 9pm tonight then ends at 9pm on Sunday. It contains four singleplayer campaign missions, some co-op action, loot to grab, and levels to gain. It is weird turning The Avengers into a loot-o-beat ’em up with months of new content and that. I don’t have room in my life for more than one live service game and Destiny has already claimed that spot, but I am curious....
We’ll get to create our own hero in the shape of The Hunter, who’ll be leading the team against Lilith. Is it, as initial rumours suggested, XCOM but with Marvel heroes? Dunno! All we have for now is that cinematic trailer, with a “gameplay reveal” coming on September 1st. “Midnight Suns is a tactics RPG,” said creative director Jake Solomon, who also directed XCOM 2. “So you’re not just fighting alongside these legends of the Marvel universe that we all know and love, but you’re actually living alongside them....

Minecraft 1.18 release date Minecraft 1.18 will be released on November 30th for both Java and Bedrock editions, as announced on Minecraft.net. This release will form part 2 of the Caves and Cliffs update, which was originally intended to be released as a whole with 1.17. But Mojang decided to split up Caves and Cliffs across two major updates, to give themselves more time to work on the monumental changes these releases will bring to Minecraft....
So, the most exciting additions for me are the new Lush Cave and Dripstone Cave biomes. The former are full of new flora like azalea trees and roots, as well as a new block called dripleaf that players can stand on briefly before it tips and drops you off. The latter are pretty much normal caves, except they have stalagmites, ’tites and glowing dripstone blocks. Players will also be able to explore the world even deeper than before, digging below Y=0 to get to the new Deepslate layer (you’ll need to relearn where to find diamonds in Minecraft because of this though)....

One of the most commonly reported issues with NieR Replicant has been how it handles higher frame rates. Those with high refresh rate monitors who play above 60 frames per second have found the game’s animations speed up alongside them. Play the game at something like 120 fps and your character will zip about at warpspeed. Other issues include mouse cursors constantly resurfacing when playing with a controller, and frame rate drops when plugging in, or unplugging your controller....
“Seveaaunn!” I know we don’t give out numbered scores here at RPS, but Monster Hunter Stories 2 is aggressively seven-y. An above average game that grew on me the more time I spent with it, but couldn’t quite nudge itself into “great” territory. Instead of the Bestest Bests stamp, I give it an imaginary stamp of Len Goodman’s face. In my preview I said Monster Hunter Stories 2 was a watered down Monster Hunter, and in hindsight that was a bit harsh....
