The chief new features are building items to scatter around your prison. Those include Advanced Searchlights, which track inmates up to no good with a CCTV camera, cone of light and a siren, plus new floors, futuristic doors and keycards. Keycards apparently replace the need for keys within your prison - although presumably keycards can be stolen just as easily as guard’s keys can. You can also build your prison using glass walls, making it easier to monitor inmates, and can require all your prisoners to wear a Tracking Belt....
While most April Fools’ jokes in video games are bad, I do like when developers actually commit to the joke and make their joke real. Fantasy Battle Royale will start at 8am (midnight PDT) on April 1st then run until 7:59am on April 8th. I’m well up for some fantasy battling with the laaads. I quite fancy a go on the Wizard myself, who has the lowest HP but can fling fireballs and meteor showers with gay abandon....

According to a press release, the Kid A Mnesia exhibition “is an upside-down digital/analogue universe created from Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood’s original artwork and audio design by Nigel Godrich.” Radiohead worked with both Epic, namethemachine (who create software for live shows and interactive performances) and Arbitrarily Good Productions to make the exhibition. Its release seems set to coincide with the reissue of the old Kid A and Amnesiac albums, Kid Amnesiae, which comes out on November 5th (via Pitchfork)....
First though, it’s time for a more general bit of stocktaking. 2022 was a big ol’ shrug of a year for VR gaming. Which is not to say it was bad, plenty of fun and interesting games launched in the last twelve months, one of which I’d probably put in my personal top ten. But from both a hardware and software perspective, nothing released this year is likely to shift the needle....

Onsen Master appears to have all them managerial tasks that I know and love: an unending line of customers, progress bars for all my many tasks, and tons of messes to clean up....
As spotted by VG24/7, player stories started popping up a couple days ago claiming they’d been attacked by invincible, two-headed skeletons. Fortunately, there’s plenty of video to go along with the tales and it’s all pretty good for a laugh. Here’s a sudden skelly attack in the middle of Rhodes on a nice afternoon. Another player was just trying to finish an honest day’s work bringing in a bounty when they were jumped by a duo of two-headed skeletons....
Resident Evil 3 will hit Steam in full on April 3rd. Until then, though, Capcom are offering a good chunk of the game through a free demo on Steam. The RE3 demo lets you play through the opening sequence of one of RPS’s most exciting games of 2020. It’s all gone to shit in Raccoon City - nobody told the infected about self-isolation, so they’re all crowding the streets, trying their damn best to stop series vet Jill Valentine and friends from escaping....
Our Rogue Legacy review in 2013 described the original as “a smartly crafted platformer with randomly configured rooms and a clever sense of progression.” It is! Then mere weeks ago, our former John (RPS in peace) declared it “still the most approachable roguelite of them all.” Building on those foundations, Rogue Legacy 2 switches to a new more illustration-y art style, with 3D models and painted backgrounds. Other changes include some metroidvania-y progression with special items that give new abilities, an overhauled traits system for the weird and wonderful quirks your heirs can have (traits in the first range from gigantism making you hard-hitting but huge, to alektorophobia making smashed furniture sometimes spawn a rowdy live chicken), new weapons for classes, and other general newness....
At heart, Rogue Legacy is a solid Castlevania-y stab-o-platformer with player classes. Off you go, mashing monster and bashing bosses, hoping to end the ultimate enemy. You probably won’t. You’ll probably fail because you are weak, and your bloodline is weak. In comes the roguelikelike elements. Each character is a new generation of your family, and you can boost future generations through unlocks. But sometimes a kid might have quirks, positive or negative, or both....

In a message in their latest financial report, Sega CEO Haruki Satomi writes that they want to create projects that “cause social phenomena”. “One strategy for generating such hit titles is the creation of a ‘Super Game’ - a large-scale global title. We’re currently developing such a game, targeting release by the fiscal year ending March 2026,” says the report. “The ultimate goal in the ‘Super Game’ strategy is to create a game so revolutionary that it attracts far more active users than any of the Group’s games to date....
EA announced yesterday, on May 31st, that starting May 31st they would remove NFS Carbon, NFS Undercover, NFS Shift, NFS Shift 2: Unleashed, and NFS The Run from sale on digital storefronts. I still see most of them on Steam, minus Carbon and The Run which were never sold there in the first place, so you can still grab ’em if you’ve been meaning to. They’re not on Origin anymore, though....

The revelation comes from Kotaku, thanks to some bloke called John Walker who asked Brode which cards he thought were “most over and underrated”. Turns out that yep, across all the games played since Snap came out 3 months ago, Shang-Chi “appears most frequently in the decks that lose most often”....
skate. creative director Cuz Parry gathered some of the senior figures at Full Circle, along with Skate Twitch streamer Brandon Thomas to discuss where the game’s at. Literally, in this case, because they unveiled the name of the city the new game is set in: San Vansterdam. Because of course. Parry says this is a whole new city and not a retread of the first Skate’s San Vanelona. Still makes me think of the shoes, though....
