While there are plenty of other games I’m looking forward to playing on the Steam Deck sometime next year, it’s visual novels like this that I’m looking forward to playing the most. I know it might seem slightly daft spending upwards of £400 on a piece of hardware specifically to turn it into a portable visual novel machine, but I’m not gonna lie. The thought of playing some of these games sat at my desk for hours on end is precisely why I’ve been endlessly putting off other great VN gems in my library such as the Danganronpa series (of which I own 1 and 2), as well as Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi’s latest game, AI: The Somnium Files....
However, I am very much in love with Unruly Heroes’ photo mode. It’s a fairly recent addition to the game, and is perhaps a little rudimentary compared with other game photo modes I’ve used in the past. But as I was tinkering about with it for the purposes of this post, the thought struck me: “Good gravy, why don’t more platformers have this sort of thing included as standard?”
WOBJ is a vignette ’em up about a short weekend camping trip. Cloanna and Brad are taking their niece Mord camping in the woods near a beach and Mord is bringing her special friend, Ben. Like Little Party, it’s about relationships developing and characters coming into focus across small moments. Mord puts on confidence and sass but isn’t sure around older people. Ben is shy but can open up. And Cloanna and Ben have their own relationship issues....
Wild Hearts is all about thwacking colossal critters upside the head with large swords. They aren’t going to finish these beasties, called Kemono, off by themselves though. You’ll need to use Wild Hearts’ wooden Karakuri technology to help you finish the job. It’s probably worth calling on some chums to help out too, which is where the co-op comes in. All that stuff’s in play in the trailer above, where players take on the Kemono boar Kingtusk....
The servers are back online now, but what on earth went wrong? Well, Wolcen: Lords Of Mayhem is just too popular. The new hack and slash left early access on Thursday, and almost straight away started suffering from the influx of players. At first, the developers released an update that seemed pretty jovial, they were thankful for the interest people had and apologised for the inconvenience. The next update came on Friday listing a lot of the known issues - including characters disappearing, items placed in your chest disappearing online, and quest progression… well, disappearing....
