Alpha testing will be split into four phases, Frontier say. Phase one, which has just kicked off, is the “first steps” phase. Alexa Kim shared several images side by side to show off her versions of levels from the VR shooter game and what they looked like after working together with the environment art team to beautify them. As Kim explains, the left images are often referred to as “blockouts” or “greybox” levels—spaces that are generally functional but aren’t visually finalised. Above And Beyond is a VR shooter, so Kim explains that her functional levels took things like cover objects and sightlines into consideration....

As online games so often do, Tarkov appears to be waging a war against cheaters. A few months ago, Battlestate posted on Tarkov’s Reddit community attempting to outline their solutions for banning cheaters and those trading in-game items for real-world money—referred to as RMT for real money trading. They followed up in July with a Twitter post warning players against “constant distribution of items in raids to other players.” They say that this behavior would be regarded as boosting—inflating the capabilities of a lower level player with advanced gear—which they say Tarkov prohibits....

YouTuber 3kliksphilip explained the exploit’s technicals in a video earlier this week, but in short - a hitch in coach spectating let coaches detach their view from teammates, giving them insight into the match they wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) normally have. It does seem the exploit has been fixed, and three coaches from Hard Legion, Heroic, and MIRB teams have already been suspended by the ESL earlier this week. But with potential cases dating back to 2016, the ESIC has decided to perform an extensive investigation on the matter, scrubbing around 25,000 match replays for cases of camera-fiddling....

CCP announced this week that they’ve expanded the Eve Anywhere beta to spacemen in the USA who meet connection and browser requirements. That’ll let you play Eve inside a Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox browser, in 1080p at 60fps according to CCP. The announcement says Omega subscribers can try Eve Anywhere “for the duration of the new test at no additional cost, providing an opportunity to experience the new platform while there is no charge”....

Expeditions: Rome, a historical CRPG blending turn-based combat, strategic army management, and lots of dialogue, has a pretty rubbish character creation system. There’s bugger all you can really do to customise your Roman. and after the mammoth character forge of Pathfinder: Wrath Of The Righteous, for example, it all just feels very sparse and shoestringy. And that is a damned shame, because when it gets down to business, this is a seriously good - and lovingly detailed - romp through centurion times....

The inclusion of the files was spotted by SteamDB co-founder Pavel Djundik, who posted about it on Twitter yesterday: The folder was uploaded at 9:33am on May 13th and then removed at 2pm on May 14th The files are seemingly from IL2CPP, a scripting backend that you can use within Unity, and which Unity then converts to C++ when assembling a project. I am not a programmer, but it seems like it contains PDB debug files and C++ code....

After fifteen months exclusive to Bethesda’s own store on PC, Fallout 76 has now finalised a Steam launch date of April 7th - also the launch day for Wastelanders, the update adding factions of human NPCs. While I’m perfectly happy buying games away from Steam, I can’t help but note that you often see a game launch in a far better state if you do wait for a Steam release....

Which is funny, because Far Cry 6 starts off small and digestible. Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito, rules the island nation of Yara through fear and violence. Diego, his son, often walks limply by this side, reluctant to get sucked into his father’s tyranny. Their dynamic is compelling, if predictable, but Esposito carries a cookie-cutter dictatorship by simply being Giancarlo Esposito; he’s a great watch. Playing as the determined Dani Roja (whose gender you can choose), you join resistance group Libertad with the sole aim of sticking Castillo’s head on a spike....

Cor, I just watched it again and it’s looking a bit good, innit? Final Fantasy games have always been technical showcases for the cutting edge in years past, but I don’t know, somehow it hasn’t quite felt like that in recent years. Maybe because it’s been so long between entries. By the time Final Fantasy 16 comes out next June, it will be seven years since the release of boys-stag-do-roadtrip Final Fantasy 15, and 14 years since Lightning and pals appeared in Final Fantasy 13....

Chucked into a big ol’ valley chuck full of monstrosities and free to explore, Frey gets to use “mystical parkour” known as Flow and a bevy of spells while she explores the new world. The preview is a glimpse at how Frey’s movement, bolstered by her magic, allows her to dodge and fight things as large as a very-large-indeed fantasy version of a crocodile....

As reported by The Verge, a new financial document made public as part of the trial discloses that Fortnite made $5.4 billion (around £3.8 billion) in 2018, its year of release, and $3.7 billion in 2019. The document was prepared in 2020, but Tim Sweeney revealed in testimony that Epic made a further $5.1 billion in gross revenue in 2020. Unsurprisingly, the Fortnite revenue far outstrips any other source for Epic....

The dynamic weather can also roll in rain storms, which cause soldiers to become muddy and slow, but snow seems the big force. As it gets colder, soldiers on foot can freeze to death, inactive vehicles can freeze, everyone moves slower (though a few vehicles handle it better), visibility is reduced, and wind changes direction more often.
