Aha! I got you again! They don’t call me the Merry Trickster Of UK PC Gaming Websites for nothing! You’ve been Halloween’d, my friends! To celebrate spooky season, I gathered seven members of the RPS treehouse to tell me about one moment from a PC game that scared them the most. The results were exactly as I expected. Some recounted events in classic horror games that shocked them senseless, whereas others told me anecdotes about games that most wouldn’t consider scary at all....

The video in question sees Mikuru Asakura wandering about RGG’s studios having a great time. First, he chats with Sega Sammy’s President Haruki Satomi, who says that there’s a new town in the next Yakuza game and reaffirms that they’re developing a title outside of the Yakuza and Judgment series. Aside from that, it’s a jovial enough chat with no more morsels of info to chase. And then Asakura is given a proper tour of the development area by RGG representative Masayoshi Yokoyama, where he marvels at the sheer number of folks working on the game and the face motion capture on some dev screens....

Paradox say Update 2.0 (codenamed Marius, after German football manager Marius Ebbers) brings “a significant reworking of the military system”. The Marius patch notes reel off new features including forming standing Legions and appointing leaders, new 3D models for Legions, new Engineer units, a redesigned UI, and plenty of bug fixes and balance tweaks. More than I could or should repeat. Also out today is the new paid Content Pack, Heirs Of Alexander....

There’s a daily puzzle that’s the same for everyone, and a separate mode that lets you play as many times as you like per day. Dordle and Quordle never clicked for me, but for no particular reason Octordle has....

Aspyr started out licensing games to make Mac ports, then later got into Linux, consoles, and pocket telephones too. They’ve recently got into publishing, putting out Layer Of Fear, and are now straight-up making their own games as well. No word yet on exactly what they’re doing. Embracer say they’re paying $100 million (£82m) in cash and shares up front for Aspyr, with up to another $350m (£287m) potentially to follow if they meet certain conditions over the coming years....

After a year in early access, the game’s launching in full with a variety of modes and I cannot stress enough how stress-less the experience is. This is a first-person soother you’ll either think is an absolute bore or the best kind of meditative chore. Career mode is the game’s zero to hero story, with a plotline that gradually escalates until it erupts (I can’t say anymore on this front, but it’s very good stuff)....

“We’re dealing with survival horror and everything is exhaustible. You run out of bullets. You run out of herbs. You run out of all the items you can use,” producer Peter Fabiano told Game Informer. “So if you did run out of everything, what would you have? The knife. The director always wanted to make it so that you at least have your trusty knife.” Thanks to the livestream of Resident Evil 3 that Capcom ran a couple weeks back, we already knew that knives would be ditching the concept of durability....

I was beginning to think I’d lost the capacity to feel anything at all. Heck, the real horror show this month has been the collapse of the entire UK nation state, and yet I still cannot bring myself to muster anything beyond a tired sigh. Then I got to the second act of Resident Evil Village’s Shadows Of Rose DLC and, oh yes, hello fear. It’s been a while, hasn’t it?...

I covered (the game that would become) Gun Jam back in a Screenshot Saturday Sundays roundup two weeks back. How could I not? That weekend, I woke up to a twitter feed ablaze with heavy metal thumping and rhythmic blasting - the Quake meets Guitar Hero crossover nobody knew they wanted, but absolutely needed. Sure, I could explain how this all works, but it’s probably easier to let you see for yourself....

Rick And Morty’s Rick Sanchez is classed as a mage, so you’ll primarily be using him to fight from a distance and confuse your opponents. You shouldn’t have to worry about knockback from firing his blaster though, as today’s patch continues the adjustments the devs have been making to the game’s projectile system and adds a new Light Projectile weapon classification. Light Projectiles, such as Rick’s uncharged blaster and pies chucked by the Never-Ending-Pie-Throwing-Robot assist item, don’t suffer knockback when fired....

The developers say it’s “no longer viable” for them to carry on supporting Mac and Linux as they “continue to upgrade Rocket League with new technologies”. It’s a bit of a vague explanation, but nevertheless next month’s patch will be the very last one for those platforms. You can still download it on Steam for Windows and it’ll run all the online bits just fine. If you don’t have access to Windows, there’s more info on Rocket League’s support website with details of how you could try to get around all this on Mac and Linux....

Not so, says Gilbert. On the subject of his previous comments, he says “None of these are promises or anything I owe anybody.” To briefly recap: Gilbert was creator, co-designer and co-writer on the first two Monkey Island games. He departed LucasArts thereafter and wasn’t involved with any of the games from The Curse Of Monkey Island onwards. In interviews in the years since, Gilbert has hinted that he had a particular idea for the third game, and perhaps an answer to the second game’s strange ending....

Your young girl protagonist Itta wakes up in some lonely-looking landscape surrounded by the corpses of her family. It’s proper dark, but the spirit of her cat joins her for the adventure which is sort of a bright spot in all that sticky sadness. Her ghostly companion gifts her a revolver, naturally, which is how she’ll be taking down the many shadowy eldritch beings blocking her path. As for how it plays, “you can change up your combat style by finding weapons with unique attack styles,” Glass Revolver say....

The latter in particular was a big problem when I tested Gigabyte’s Aorus NVMe Gen 4 SSD last year, as its bulky copper heatsink often didn’t fit with the array of X570 motherboards I had at the time for testing AMD’s 3rd Gen Ryzen CPUs. Indeed, many X570 motherboards come with their own heatsink solutions these days, making the Aorus NVMe Gen 4 feel quite wasteful - especially when its entry-level 1TB model started at a whopping £290 / $260 when it first came out....

Available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB sizes in either black or silver, the Samsung Portable T7 Touch (to give it its full and proper name) is by far one of the most attractive external SSDs I’ve ever laid eyes on. I mean, the T5 was already quite a looker, but the T7 Touch is bloody lovely. It’s an infinitely nicer thing than WD’s My Passport SSD, and I much prefer it to the similarly-sized but flimsy-feeling plastic casing of the Adata SC680....

I’ve nothing against 2D platformers, but to stand out in such a saturated genre you really need to capture something special. Wonder Potion have more or less nailed both the tricky but rewarding platforming, grappling, and baddie smacking parts of their formula, and perhaps more impressively, the story parts as well. This is a game with character, and the storytelling chops to make the most of its relatively simple ideas....
