Digressions get off to a good start with Matthew’s adoption of the Lego Stud as a name, which makes him sound like a hot LEGO minifig, leading us to wonder what it would be like if we were all just shadows conjoured by Nate’s subconcious. Truly beastly. This week in inside baseball we discuss why the promo tat we used to get from PRs was not as good as you might imagine it was, and anyway now it’s all YouTuber’s getting free cars....

Kate will star in Taking Aim, the first ‘Operation’ coming after the game launches, due in late October. Operations are big ol’ content drops with new characters, story missions, villains, and such, continuing the story after the main campaign. Looks like her story dovetails with whatever’s going on with Clint Barton’s Hawkeye, who’s due to arrive with a new Operation in November to complete that story. I like Kate Bishop....

Port Promise is probably the most interesting, a post-industrial shithole of a harbour covered in rubbish but, paradoxically, populated almost entirely by people trying to clean it up. SteamDB creator Pavel Djundik revealed the new weekly release navigator on Twitter. To get to the navigator, you can click on Upcoming in SteamDB’s top menu, then select Calendar. That takes you to a monthly breakdown of upcoming releases, where you can select a week by clicking on the numbers on the left-hand side. Just glancing at this week reminds me that Lego Bricktales is out today, Triangle Strategy’s released tomorrow, and Scorn arrives on Friday....

Small World is pretty good! It’s about stitching complementary abilities together, then choosing the right moment to plunge your chosen people into extinction. It’s a territory control game, where you’re competing for (small) world domination against up to four other people. You’re trying to clobber your way into different areas and extract points from them, using special abilities that help you beat back your opponents and make certain spaces more lucrative....

Today’s announcement says, “Development is well underway and the first results from all of the hard work the team has put in will be revealed in the next couple of months.” Mate you don’t need to wait until June, NotE3 runs all year now, you can show it at 3am on a Thursday if you want, we’ve no rules anymore. After this is done, the plan is for them to make more RPGs....

This latest one is a remake of Trackmania Nations, a free online spin-off released in 2006. It’s called Trackmania, because clarity is unfashionable I guess. After some understandable delays, it’s out now, and although it has a subscription model, there’s a pretty generous free version too. It features the usual unlikely courses full of loops and jumps and tilty bits, with a heavy focus on online leaderboards. As you race around trying to beat your best times, you’re accompanied by ghosts of other players....

It’s sort of Doom but turn-based. Your best is to send a small number of actions, get a short video back, and then adjust accordingly. That’s not stopped some people from doing the opposite though and just speeding through levels. Joy Of Painting is the creation of modder Merlord, and is currently in alpha. You’ll need the Ashfall mod for Morrowind to be able to craft an easel and canvas for it. Plonk your crafted easel down in front of a subject and put a canvas, then select the draw/paint option and choose an art style, such as oil, watercolour, charcoal, or ink. Choose your subject, and away you go....
