The Past Within is played from two perspectives: Rose, the daughter of the bloke who’s responsible for the mystery in the first place, and another mystery character. There’s the past to explore with Rose, natch, but then there’s also the future. One player gets to inhabit each time period and help the other solve puzzles. Both players will need their own copy of the game, but PC players can team up with pals who have the game on their mobile or tablet, too....

There’s no shortage of dungeon-ish turn based combat games, nor of those made of all the usual fantasy archetypes, nor of pixelly low-fi games with bleepy bloopy music. Multiplayer mod support arrived with update 1.42 yesterday. The Convoy mode server browser will notify you when a server is modded, and pop open helpful Steam Workshop windows to download any mods you don’t have. You can run Convoy with mods not on the Steam Workshop, but players will need to find the downloads manually. “We expect a majority of popular modifications to work from the get-go with this update, however, there may be some compatibility issues with others,” SCS say....

When Imogen (RPS in peace) interviewed Tunic dev Andrew Shouldice last September, they talked about how instruction manuals were a fundamental part of a game’s design back in the days of the NES, and at one point he even pulled out his old instruction booklet for Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link to demonstrate some of the “tantalising hints” they’d offer to curious players. As Brendan (also RPS in peace) noted in our Tunic review, the in-game manual is indeed a critical part of what makes Tunic special, and the act of piecing it together page by page really does capture that feeling of discovering some great secret that only you and the dev team know about....

Here’s Ubisoft’s video introduction: In a Ubisoft news post, they announced that Quartz - the platform - would launch in beta with Ghost Recon Breakpoint on PC via Ubisoft Connect. The first three Digits - the NFT cosmetic items - will apparently be “rewarded” to early adopters for free on December 9th, 12th, and 15th. Digits are purely cosmetic, conferring no gameplay benefit. In a video posted earlier today, Riot producer Anna Donlon and game director Joe Ziegler regretfully informed fans that Valorant won’t release in the next few months - because it’s arriving in just under two weeks, releasing in full on June 2nd. Nice fake-out, guys. That news probably comes as a relief to the folks still idling Twitch streams in an attempt to get into the Valorant Closed Beta. That beta will finish a little earlier, wrapping up on May 28th....

What we know about Valorant: Valorant is a new free-to-play tactical first-person shooter from Riot Games. So far it looks like a cross between CS:GO and Overwatch. The Valorant release date is based sometime in the summer, but there will also be a closed beta running sometime in the months before release. In their Valorant announcement video, Riot Games stated they want to solve many of the problems that have plagued competitive shooters, such as cheating, latency, and peeker’s advantage....

Valve avoid giving numbers or even a definitive ranking for anything. They sort games into ‘bands’, largely not explaining the metrics defining these, and randomly shuffle the order in which they’re presented. So you can broadly see which are successful, but not which is the most successful nor how any compare to others within their band. And they are missing the end of December (and therefore Steam Winter Sale), obvs....

Alice Bee played a preview version of Bloodhunt earlier this year. She enjoyed running up buildings, but wasn’t wild about it being so gung-ho for guns and found the alpha wonky enough that she doubted whether it would launch this year. Welp, apparently it’s coming, at least in early access. “It has a good sense of verticality, and the act of moving around in Bloodhunt is dynamic and diverting,” Alice said....

“The plan was to launch the game this year for both PC and PS5 as we moved out of Early Access: Founder’s Season,” Sharkmob said in yesterday’s announcement. “Based on key learnings from this early season, we have decided to take the time needed to address the valuable feedback we have received and postpone the release until early 2022.” More than postpone the full launch, they’re temporarily shutting the game down....
