Edgerunners is a ten-episode show about David, a lad who suffers a tragedy that motivates him to become one of the titular techno-mercenaries. He teams up with a ragtag band of nogoodniks to survive on the streets of Night City, the very same place inhabited by Cyberpunk 2077’s V and their mates. Some of them even make cameos. Netflix and CD Projekt tasked Kill La Kill and Darling In The Franxx animators Studio Trigger to create Edgerunners and, if you’re familiar with Trigger and their cyber-broom, you can really tell....

Cyberpunk 2077 devs CD Projekt Red did officially add a few wee bits of the anime to the game in the Edgerunners Update this month. Players could find David’s jacket and Rebecca’s ridiculous shotgun, Guts. Modders have added a whole lot more than that. For starters, to go with his jacket, surely you’ll want David’s phenomenal hairstyle. Sadly only for the male V, that. You might fancy a preset for David’s face and David’s pistol skin too....

At the showcase’s centre of those wasted 15 minutes was, at least, a new viscera-slick trailer of the actual Dead Island 2. So you can watch that below. That trailer doesn’t really tell us anything we didn’t already know. Dead Island 2 is set in an LA of obnoxious characters, many zombies, and much melee combat. It does look particularly gory though, with every punch, wallop, slice sloshing blood around like every zombie is a water balloon waiting to be popped....

Fragile is once again portrayed by Lea Seydoux, who appears to be caring for a newborn baby in the trailer - and not a BB baby in a jar, I might add, an actual human child (who also has an adorable set of wings sown into their onesie). Made by the Paris-based Game Source Studio, this turn-based strategy battler sees you take control of four types of samurai as you seek to bring balance to a mystical realm above the clouds. Oni, goblins and other creatures from Japanese myth are your primary antagonists here, but its hexagonal islands are also stuffed full of text-based narrative events, sidequests, and treasure troves to uncover. It’s a lot to take in, but the latter in particular are vital to your success....

At this point I couldn’t summarise the Nina Struthers story, so I’m not going to try. For me the Devolver broadcasts walk a real fine line and risk becoming surrealism for its own sake, but they pull it off with some excellent performances, with relative pace, and with writing that’s a million times better than literally any other cringe-inducing E3 show. Despite presenting explicit fiction, Devolver are the only people who seem to be having genuine fun....

Unfortunately, Epic don’t give an exact date for when this new party system will arrive, though it should be some time this year. In a blog post, they say you can be in parties with friends who aren’t playing the same game as you, and you’ll be able to invite them from there to join. There’ll be no single host of the party, so if one of you goes offline, the others will still be able to chat - much like how Discord channels work....

Looking at everything in that Witchfire trailer, I’m reminded of Nate’s Fallout 76 review, where he described the gunfire as feeling “like you’re throwing packing peanuts at Jason Momoa”.
