My stylistic preferences in horde arena action are more Devil Daggers than Serious Sam so I’m maybe not the best judge here. What do you think, gang? It’s been nine years since the last main Serious Sam game, during which Croteam have released a VR spin-off, and the unexpectedly good philosophical puzzler The Talos Principle. They are still planning a Talos sequel, last I heard. Curiously, Devolver did not use their notE3 show to announce an actual release date....

Here’s the new trailer: Let’s be clear, it’s not like it looked bad before, but its abstract world looked spartan. Now it seems to contain cityscapes rendered as particles of light and inhabited by polygonal spectres, sparkling diamonds and vehicular orbs. The camera angles, the soundtrack, the texture of it all; it’s lush in a way that makes me want to play it immediately. As for how it feels, Skate Story apparently falls midway between the push-button trickery of Tony Hawk and the analogue wobbling of EA’s Skate....

This dog petting downtime activity is the work of modder JaySerpa. Approaching a friendly dog and interacting with it while unarmed will result in some pets dependant on whether the pup in question is sitting, standing, or lounging about. Here, look. It’s exactly what it says on the tin. Bandcamp, if you don’t know it, is—if I may make a bad comparison—kinda a musical equivalent of Itch.io (kinda). It’s about the only way I buy music these days. As well as letting you stream music in your browser and from an app, you can download in a variety of formats: MP3 V0, MP3 320, FLAC, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, ALAC, Wav, and AIFF. Good stuff. Evo’s statmeent on the acqusition, posted to Twitter, acknowledged those allegations as one of the motivations behind the sale. Sony’s own message mirrored that statement, while announcing that Evo Online would return on August 6th-8th and 13th-15th. It’s an online-only event due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and will feature Tekken 7, Street Fighter V: Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, and Guilty Gear Strive. In order to deliver on the trust you have all put in Evo, we realize that we need an experienced strategic partner who truly respects the spirit of the FGC....

League has the most stuff. New wizard Lillia, the Bashful Bloom arrives in today’s patch. A new “narrative experience” named Spirit Bonds will give players missions and chat with ’em. New event cosmetics and bits will be available through that. Spirit Blossom skins for nine wizards are out too. Plus Nexus Blitz mode is back for more quick matches. In Teamfight Tactics, there are themed variants of three Little Legends....

In liu of us getting our own hands on the thing, here’s what everyone who got to did had to say about it. The long and short is pretty positive: comfortable controls despite the large size and good performance even if the battery life may trend towards the low end of Valve’s targets. Now, inevitably, everyone is going to compare the Steam Deck to the Nintendo Switch. That is still definitely a point of reference for just about everyone who’s gotten their hands on the thing this week—on everything from the size of the machine itself to performance to peripheral support and so on....

Like the Nintendo Switch, the Steam Deck can enter a low-power sleep mode that will let you resume playing immediately upon waking up. This presents an issue to the standard Steam Cloud Sync feature we’re used to on our PCs, as that requires a game be closed completely for save files to upload to the cloud. Dynamic Cloud Sync, however, can upload those files before the Steam Deck goes to sleep, and if you go off and resume playing on your PC or laptop, the Deck can then download the updated game save when you return to it....

Like their former Steam Machine system, the Steam Deck will run on Linux, not Windows. It will use a compatibility layer called Proton to run Windows games on Linux, a fork off of the Wine compatibility layer. Trouble is, not all games are compatible with Proton, though Valve say they’re working on it. “The team has been working on and improving Proton for a while now, and it has a large amount of coverage,” according to Steam’s current documentation....

Citing unnamed and shadowy “people familiar with its development”, Bloomberg report that Suicide Squad won’t hit its vague release window of 2022. Those mysterious figures don’t offer any insight into why but I’d guess the usual reason: making video games is hard, and it takes ages, and making big fancy video games good is even harder, and can take even longer. Throw in a global pandemic which has thrown so many people’s lives off, not just in working from home, and yeah, that’ll probably gum up development....

Whether out on the open sea or on a dockside fish farm, your city will soon be saltier than a barnacle-encrusted puffin. Now, how’s about letting us set up a couple-dozen chippies, eh Paradox? City management with salt n’ sauce? There’s more than fishing going on in Sunset Harbor, mind. You can now satisfy rich citizens (and irritate everyone else) with passenger helicopters jetting throughout your cities. A new aviation club, meanwhile, will help service all the mid-life crisis dads by offering recreational flying, supposedly adding attractiveness and entertainment value to your town....

Worry not, commanders. EA have brought C&C’s B-movie acting chops into high-definition, showing off a brief clip earlier this week. But scaling up decades-old footage didn’t come without tactical challenges of its own. It’s one thing to spruce up building and unit textures. It’s quite another to upscale 320 x 200 resolution recordings of professional actors chewing up scenery like an all-you-can-eat buffet. For producer Jim Vessella, this meant going on a treasure hunt to track down some original HD recordings....
