But what really drew me to it was the setting, which immediately reminded me of the Thursday Next series of books by Jasper Fforde. They’re about a young investigator who travels through various books to track down a wanted terrorist, along with her pet dodo named Pickwick. They’re a great read. Bookbound Brigade has a similar MO. But, for me at least, it lost some shine for the way it portrayed the literary and historical characters encountered along the way....

In Neo Cab you play as Lina, one of the last human cab drivers, arriving in a near-future city in the USA. Los Ojos is a sort of LA, sort of San Fran town, with the setting very close to being fully blown cyberpunk but not all the way there yet. It’s sort of nowpunk, I suppose, with the expected shady corporate mass surveillance plot ongoing. There are loads of little touches and things you have to balance (money, the battery life of your car, your missing best mate, sleeping, and so on), and the people you drive around are a very interesting mix....

This is an first-person orienteering sim. You’re dropped into a chunk of Czech countryside prettier than anything in Skyrim, with a compass and a detailed map you hold in your hands like Far Cry 2. The difference is that, unlike in Far Cry 2 and most other games, you can’t see yourself magically projected onto that map. You have to situate yourself on it using the compass, your surroundings, and - in my case, at least - a shaky sense of distances....

While it sounds like regular video game wallop, year walking was a legit practice in the 19th century. Well, so the story goes. Basically, Swedish folk would fast for 24 hours in a dark room, then walk through the local woods and towards the village church, so they could see what the next 12 months had in store for them. During their walks these people would often encounter supernatural beings; some brought them harm, while others brought good fortune....

An amazingly comprehensive set of tutorials, and a superbly clear and well-designed UI, both work alongside a host of other improvements to smooth out the mountainous learning curve of its predecessor. That’s not to say the game is simpler or any less brimming with content than Crusader Kings II....

In the development video shared today, Ninja Theory co-founder Tameem Antoniades calls Project: Mara “a real-world and grounded representation of true mental terror.” The shots in the teaser—a computer screen and what looks like an office hallway—both look almost live action rather than rendered in a game engine. First spotted by WccfTech, the Facebook post is no doubt just having a bit of fun with Sony’s PS5 design, poking fun at the similarities in its design rather than its actual size.
