It’s the satisfaction of yelling into a cave and hearing a perfect echo bounce back. Caves aren’t exactly where Transport Fever 2 begins, but it is a game that takes great pleasure in telling the story of infrastructure from its earliest days....
It is all of those things, but not in the way they all sound. And it’s bloody good. The less I say about it, the better, really. It’s a very short game, and very simple as puzzles go, so I don’t want to deprive you of the bewildered, extremely mildly transgressive delight I had while playing it. Predictably, my own journey with The Longing has slowed down a bit. In a lengthy report by Kotaku, a number of anonymous current and former Ubisoft staff spoke of a tumultuous development on a game that, eight years on, still isn’t taking shape. In 2013, Skull & Bones started life as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, before turning into an MMO-like spin-off Black Flag Infinite, then eventually the potential live service pirate game being made now. “If Skull & Bones were at a competitor it would have been killed 10 times already,” one former developer told Kotaku....
There are 15 games in total which will have their online features “decommissioned”, eleven of which are on PC. Switching off online features means that players will no longer be able to play these games in competitive multiplayer or co-operative modes, should they have them, or in some instances make use of in-game rewards, statistics or news services. The trailer confirms that the games are being remastered for both PS5 and PC, and a post on the PlayStation blog says it will release on PC “shortly after the PS5 version.” The whole package is expected early 2022. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is the final adventure of series protagonist Nathan Drake, as hunts treasure “across the jungles of Madagascar to long lost pirate colony of Libertalia.” The Lost Legacy, meanwhile, focuses on Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross on their own treasure-hunting adventure....
The update’s name is a big clue to its contents: lots of homemaking goodies. You can build with new Darkwood pieces including shingle roofs, beams, and decorations, as well as crystal walls. “The new terrain modification system is made to reduce the number of network instances and make loading faster and smoother,” the devs say. “Technically it’s a pretty big change but hopefully you should not notice that much of a difference except some minor behaviour changes to the hoe and pickaxe and of course much smoother loading of areas with a lot of terrain modifications. All terrain modifications after this patch (using the hoe, pickaxe or cultivator) will automatically use the new modification system....
In our experience with CS:GO, Overwatch and the like, having a crosshair tailored to your liking can grant you greater confidence in firefights and begin the process of ingraining that all-important muscle memory into the way you swing your mouse across the pad. Being totally comfortable with your crosshair also means you don’t need to worry about it - there won’t be this feeling of, “urgh, I’m not sure if I like it....
KAY/O’s basic ability is a supression blade. Throw this at a wall and it suppresses the use of abilities by anyone within its blast radius. He also has a flashbang, a frag grenade, and an ultimate “overload” ability. The latter causes his suppression ability to be emitted in waves from his location, preventing enemies within range from using their powers for a short while. I quite like that Valorant’s pitch is basically “Counter-Strike with magic abilities”, or often “magic abilities that roughly approximate Counter-Strike items”, but here the magic is just… a flashbang....
But first, Icebox. Set in a chilly harbour next to some sort of laboratory, this map will plonk players into tightly-packed corridors lined with shipping containers. From the looks of it, Icebox won’t have so many long sightlines encouraging sniper-fests (which is good considering the Operator got nerfed recently). There is a zipline you can hop on to whizz over the map, though, so maybe watch out for people trying to snipe you off of that....
Ars Technica claims “multiple sources” have confirmed that SteamPal will be a “Switch-like portable PC designed to run a large number of games on the Steam PC platform via Linux”. Ars says one prototype is “quite wide compared to the Nintendo Switch. This extra width accommodates a slew of control options.” None of those options are keyboards, though. The prototype reportedly has a mixture of thumbsticks, buttons, and touchpads surrounding a touchscreen....
The dock does what you would expect it to. It keeps the Steam Deck upright while connected, and it has ports on the back for charging the device, connecting to the internet, and hooking up to external displays. Reddit user ElderberryLarge9104 shared a photo of the ports on the back of the dock (embedded right) and wrote that “every unit they had on display was on a dock” at the Tokyo Game Show....
Specifically, they’re promising a full day of “game reveals, in-game activities, developer panels”, as well as a cosplay contest and a community art show. Originally announced back in 2018, The New War is a story campaign in which players will switch perspectives been different characters rather than play as their normal warframe....
I’ve not played Red Dragon, but I played its predecessor Wargame: AirLand Battle. I remember, mostly, that it was very pretty, and that I did not understand the difference between all the tanks. People - you, in the comments - tell me they’re good games, though. I do like an older game from the same studio, Ruse, a real-time strategy game with a similar look but which gave players special abilities they could deploy on the battlefield in order to trick and deceive their opponents with decoys or radar blackouts....
The bonus emotions? Surprise and… not being so surprised. Surprise that we’d accomplished such a feat, but not so much surprise in the game itself. It was, as expected, a good co-op FPS time! But a very familiar one. In a roughly 40-minute play session, I partied up with two other journos and a very helpful dev, each of us picking one of the game’s characters. I opted for a bloke who hit things with a big sledgehammer, while the others took on a huge ogre-like lad called an Ogryn, a psychic spell-slinging fella, and your veteran soldier type....
Raven Software announced that there were recently another 30,000 cheaters banned across the Call Of Dutyverse, bringing the Warzone-specific lifetime total to over half a million. That is, indeed, a large number of players who’ve gotten the boot from Verdansk. My big number conceptualisation skills are not top notch, so I’ll give you a meaningless way to visualize it: that is 3,333 full Warzone matches of players. Plus 50 more....
