The Liquidators are a hit squad sent by the “Dark Market” to dissolve enemy squads and capture territory. They feature in a new mode called Tactical Conquest, in which squads will compete to capture and hold three flags. Squads win the round by depleting enemy tickets. It’s similar to Conquest, then, but where Battlefield normally focuses on scale and bombast, Tactical Conquest shrinks everything down. For a start, teams are smaller, with the first week featuring 8vs8 and the second week 16vs16....

But it is fun, and it’s just received a massive update that includes new maps, new vehicles, revamped graphics, a traffic light system, and “an improved oil simulation”. Heck yeah. There are a bunch of videos in the Steam blog post introducing the update, but here’s the most significant, introducing the new Gridmap. For those who haven’t played it, Gridmap was the original physics playground shipped with BeamNG.drive. A greybox space filled with tubes, bumps, ledges for you to drive across and into, so you could see the game’s remarkable soft-body physics shudder and shatter your vehicle into its hundreds of constituent parts....

The trailer for Where Winds Meet was the only one at today’s Gamecom opener that featured the word balustrades, which wins it massive points for fanciness. It was very dramatic, with moonlit lakes and buildings being set alight by fallen candles. There was poetry and petals flying into air. I may have shed a single, fat tear while watching. The cities bustle and you can climb up snow-blasted mountains to high fortresses....

It is a delightful little game about building a hive of bees, and I am entirely covered in bruises from kicking myself for putting off writing about it for so long. But happily, it’s just been updated, adding more ways to customise difficulty, and a “beepedia” full of tips, tutorials, and BEE FACTS. There’s also a charming new trailer. Although very friendly and entirely about having a good time, Hive Time has some pretty good management chops....

You’re spending the summer with your cousin, and he and your mum are both concerned at your total lack of any discernable game (which, ouch). He begins setting you up on dates, which mostly happen to be with weapons. These are a variety of different, preturnaturally good looking people who can turn at will into offensive items you wouldn’t get through airport security. At the same time, you start exploring dungeons that appear in town, mirror universe versions of normal locations that are full of monsters manifested by your subconcious....

This is a short, linear shooter about riddling high-tech corporate goons and ancient mythical chinese warriors with bullets and blade wounds - a shooter that’s left me both razzled and dazzled, but not without reservation. Bright Memory is a mixed bag, but let’s start by tucking into all the gold clanking amidst the copper. For starters, there’s a base level of enjoyment that games can’t really dip below if they let me deflect projectiles with a sword....

In this pretty adventure game, you play as Annika Stonefly. She’s searching for her father’s lost bug mech rig, with help from a team of pilots named the Acorn Corps. From the sound of the story and the trailer alone, Stonefly already seems great. For me, that greatness is amplified by the developers describing the plot as “Rogue One shrunk down to Fern Gully size”. I used to watch Fern Gully all the time when I was little, I had no idea how much I wanted a game like it until this moment....

A bit like the wonderful Townscaper (a game which the devs cite as an influence), Tiny Glade is a game where you simply enjoy making a cute diorama. It similarly has toylike building tools where you drag out shapes and tug on bits, and the game interprets what those actually are at structures. So a low line you drag might come out as a fence, but tugging it upwards will turn it into a wall....

Zombies Onslaught was revealed with a new trailer this Friday - and while I’m sure it looks fun and all, there’s no use getting excited. This one’s for the PlayStation folks. It’s worth noting that Zombie Onslaught is entirely separate from the standard Zombies affair, which continues as usual on all platforms. Instead, Onslaught reworks the game’s multiplayer maps into survival arenas, letting you jump in with a buddy, all kitted out in your competitive loadouts....

As the folks at PCGamesN point out, our hapless driver is streamer/comedian Noel Miller - decked out in full military fatigues for a night of unconventional warfare. You can catch the full stream on Twitch, with the full-throttle prison fight kicking off at around 1:21:00. It all starts out reasonably enough. Well, as reasonable can be expected given Miller’s set-up - driving a truck through Warzone’s winding roads does, at least, make sense....

Two new modes arrived in yesterday’s patch. ‘Roleplay’ mode creates checkpoints at settlements, letting you reload from there when you die, and ‘Wander’ mode sounds even more chill. In Wander, your reputation with every faction starts at 0 or more so most creatures start neutral to you, it offers no XP for kills, and it offers extra XP for discoveries, completing quests, and performing the water ritual, and it has checkpointing it....

According to a market valuation change spotted on Reddit, the Polish company’s market value has climbed to $8 billion from the $6.8 billion it was valued at last month. That’s still a fair shot behind France-based Ubisoft who are valued at $9.6 billion, though it does net them the silver medal. It is important to remember that these numbers don’t represent CDP’s yearly profits or total assets. The company’s valuation is based on current price of shares in their stock multiplied by total stock shares trading on a given market, meaning it’s a number subject to swing wildly based on speculation....

The Chowder Man is played by real musician Hot Dad, who recorded a number of songs in Hypnospace Outlaw, and here he’s joined by Dave Pino on guitar. The song was released as a surprise Christmas gift, with a video directed by Hypnospace creator Jay Tholen. Like a lot of Hot Dad’s music, Christmas Pain In Christmas Town is great for being ludicrous (especially with that video) yet touching. It balances stumbling awkwardness (even the song name makes me laugh) and horniness (oh I bet he wants to “slide down your chimney” with “tenderness and compassion” alright) with heartfelt expressions that cut through the goofs, like: “Bottle in my hand, try to drink it away / The snow is falling down, I’m so cold and afraid....

Flux continues the sc-fi story of Citizen Sleeper, with a flotilla of refugee ships arriving at outer space outpost Erlin’s Eye. You’ll have to help out some of the new characters who get onto the station before quarantine prevents them from boarding. The episode introduces Eshe, a stubborn spacer who gets caught up in the refugee crisis that starts to endanger the whole station. Two more episodes, as yet untitled, are planned for October and sometime in 2023, respectively....
