I knew the PC port would have to be either unplayable, or introduce an inexplicable wisecracking pelican as Aloy’s sidekick, to change my opinion of what’s probably my favourite ever action game. And so here we are. Despite a couple of hardware wiggles, and some tough moments with mouse and keyboard in a game shot through with PlayStation DNA, there is no pelican, and Horizon Zero Dawn is, for me, a very Bestest Best....

Luckily, my laptop can also run Glass Masquerade 2: Illusions. This is a jigsaw game inspired by stained glass windows, and I love it because those stained glass windows are from the most ridiculous church ever dreamed of. I played a billion hours of it last week. I will preface this by saying that Glass Masquerade 2 is a genuinely good puzzle game. There are different difficulty levels, so you can have the game automatically show you where to place some edgy bits if you need help getting started....

Any developer can submit their game to the IGF Awards, with the submissions then crawled over by a large swarm of developers and journalists - including spit filth like me. The recommendations then guide a smaller number of handselected jurors - spit not me - who choose the finalists. Winners are then revealed during GDC in San Francisco, which this year is due to take place March 21st-25th. The Microsoft Store has sprung plenty of leaks lately, sharing the release date for Yakuza: Like A Dragon, the name and screenshots for Star Wars: Squadrons, and the Crysis remaster which all turned out spot on. Developers KING Art teased the update in a recent Steam post, as spotted by cheeky RPS fanzine PC Gamer. Apparently “a new World Map Campaign mode for single player vs. A.I.” will arrive in the next month or so. The World Map campaign gives you various scenarios to choose from, each set on a map split into distinct territories, some unclaimed and some already controlled by enemy AI. You then choose how to advance across the map....

The bundle launched on June 5th with 749 video games, tabletop RPGs, game-making tools and bits, and such. It now has 1704. Some of those are free games, but part-way through Itch switched to only adding paid things. There are still: so many games. Annapurna Interactive announced the June 11th date today and I’m honestly excited even though I’ve played the 2ish hour game many times over. If you aren’t familiar, Journey is short and very pretty adventure game set in a mysterious desert. Your faceless, hooded protagonist collects bits to their shiny cloak that allow them to fly about solving light puzzles as they learn the fate of their fellow robed folks. It’s a quiet game, told with emotional music instead of any voice over....
