There is a new indie dev collective called 10mg - named, I assume, after a small amount of… some drugs? - and they have today released a collection of ten games, each taking around ten minutes to play, and available as a collection on Steam for ten quid. Our Nat wrote about them at the top of the month, and in the words of 10mg themselves, “at worst, they waste 10 minutes of your time on a buck-wild idea that didn’t pan out....

I recently spent some time setting up a small Minecraft server on an old PC. I wanted to create a place for myself and few friends. The one issue was that we were all using vastly different PCs. In my office, I have a new gaming PC with 32GB of RAM, an AMD 3600 and a 2080ti; our other PC is a five-year-old Alienware Alpha with integrated Nvidia graphics, a 4th generation i5, and I’ve added 16GB of RAM....
We’ve been aware of Directive 8020 for a good few months, as details of The Dark Pictures Anthology’s second season were revealed by trademark filings back in February. Four other upcoming game titles were shown in the filings: The Craven Man, Intercession, Winterfold, and the unusual sounding Presents O Death. The first season of The Dark Pictures only had four games, so that last one might be something different than we’re used to from the anthology series....

As you probably know Philippe Thibaut’s latest uses a modified version of the Wars Across The World engine to simulate the Soviet invasion of Finland at the start of WW2. Turns are elaborately phased (see above), IGOUGO, and represent seven days of conflict. The longest of the game’s six bilateral scenarios lasts fourteen weeks/turns and takes, according to dev Avalon Digital, roughly four and a half hours to complete. I waltzed through it twice in that time, achieving convincing victories both times, for reasons I’ll explain in a minute....
A few things: The Forest first entered early access in 2014, finally launching in full in 2018. Our former John (RPS in peace) called it “a huge achievement, and a survival horror game that somehow manages to keep those two elements surprisingly separate and yet let each impose upon the other in very interesting ways” in his The Forest review. It was still a little raw, but Endnight kept on patching, including adding VR support....
The 80-some clips seemingly show everything from full, in-game scenarios to clearly unfinished bits of grey boxing, but you won’t find a link to them here, because the truth is, they’re simply not worth looking at. What possible benefit could they provide anyone right here, right now? The leaker gets their five minutes of fame and an influx of new followers, sure. But GTA 6 itself isn’t going to look anything like what you see in those clips when it’s actually finished, so someone please tell me, what is even the point?...
We can safely assume that the show will play out much like the story of the games, and Ellie seems to be heading for a similar fate to the one she met in the 2013 PlayStation 3 original. Just with live-action, rather than lots of crouching behind objects and sneaking. Critics seem to be lapping up Naughty Dog’s sci-fi survival story now that it’s not interactive, though. The BBC called it “the best video game adaptation ever”, while The Guardian reckoned it was a “perfect” translation of our favourite medium for television....
Little Nightmares 2 and The Medium are both actually genuinely trying to mine psychological themes for their horror - indeed, in the latter you actually go and have a root around in a person’s subconscious at some points - but as I observed in my review of The Medium, it didn’t really scare me at all. Little Nightmares 2 did.
You’re Adam, who has agreed to support his childhood friend Beth as she technically tresspasses around an old farm, intent on metal-detecting out an earring. Beth found the first of a pair when she was a child, and the missing earring is now totemic: digging it up will, Beth believes, fix all the current problems with her family, work, and relationship. Reasonable. The setting is kind of glorious, in the way that members of the Women’s Institute would use the word....
And then the Noblechairs Epic TX comes along, and it’s got me rethinking. To be clear, I’m still convinced that many, if not most gaming chairs are ugly wastes of cash. And the Epic TX doesn’t address the underlying non-logic of gaming chairs: that they don’t provide any meaningful benefits to the actual playing of games, at least none that you couldn’t also get from a comfortable non-gaming chair. At least when we use phrases like “gaming mouse” or “gaming keyboard” it’s because they include extra buttons or focused features for genuine, practical advantages....
It’s far simpler than that. There was a period of disappointment, even, when it seemed like there wasn’t much to it at all. That’s partly because it’s easy to play it too passively, or get stuck in attritional stand offs, and partly because of the need for a bit too much repetition. But over time its subtler details become more apparent, and your choices start to feel more multifaceted. And yet, it remains at heart the same throughout....
It does games in particular a disservice to get prescriptive with genre, but there’s no question that Riftbreaker falls under ‘action strategy’, with an even greater emphasis on action than, say, Hostile Waters or Sacrifice. But then, it also has detailed base building, tower defence, and a tonne of resource management. I’ve given up trying to categorise it, and it will always be distinct from most strategy games, but I think its peers could still learn a few things from it....

Importantly, it is confirmed that you can create both your own lightsaber and droid. According to a press release, the devs “set out to create an authentic and immersive Star Wars experience for players”, and I assume that is why we are also told it is inspired by Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Star Wars themed areas at Disneyland and Disney World....
So, according to that trailer, we can expect some shavings off the price of games like Ghostwire: Tokyo, Cyberpunk 2077, God Of War, Monster Hunter Rise, and Dying Light 2. Probably the stand-out pick of the bunch is current vampiric darling V Rising, if you’ve not already plunged your fangs into that one. We’ve still a few hours to go until we see how much all these will set you back....
