Tonight’s double-whammy of new trailers began with plenty of the ever classy brutal melee thwacking nonsense that the first game was known for, which I can’t bring you here due to YouTube’s age-restrictions. Along with the standard trailer introducing the idea of an undead-ridden Los Angeles, Deep Silver also showed some gameplay. Dead Island 2 gameplay! What a time to be alive, or otherwise living. It might just be the fact we’re in 2022 now but there’s a very Dying Light feel to proceedings, although that long-lost Dead Island campery seemingly intact....

There’s not a massive amount of detail about what you can expect from the Oklahoma DLC right now, but the Steam page does have a bucketload of screenshots and some hints. The southern state of Oklahoma features “wonderful national parks, several natural marvels, and historical places full of mysteries and legends”. Truckers should have plenty to transport and loads of routes to take, because Oklahoma has a well-developed road network and its economy’s based on natural gas and oil production....

In the dev update below, Respawn explains how Wraith’s previous sprinting animation tucked her head in, allowing her to “shrink her shootable area from the perspective of the enemy”. She already has the smallest hitbox of all the characters, having a unique sprint that let her dodge even more damage on top of that really was just a bit too strong. “Now we know her old sprint was iconic and we hate to see it go as well, but we believe this is the best way by far of bringing her in line without having to hit her abilities again,” Respawn say in the patch notes....

You climb a tower and splat monsters and culty magic nerds. You loot, and avoid traps, chug red liquids, and occasionally die and have to start again. But I enjoyed every moment, and never once hit the usual aggravating points that push me out of the genre. It’s good stuff all round, frankly.

Eivor can delve into more tricked out subterranean spaces with the arrival of the second Tombs Of The Fallen pack in this update. The first round of these were added to the game last November, weaving in a bit of Ass Creed’s science-fantasy Isu storyline and characters from ancient British history to boot. Ubisoft say this new batch of tombs is a bit soggy and a smidge melty, thanks to deep water and some pretty dangerous lava you’ll need to contend with....

I would test this myself, but I’ve once again allowed my Ubisoft Plus subscription to lapse, so I’ll have to take the word of Andy Robinson at Video Games Chronicle. Here’s the thing, this is a software implementation of a dual-stage trigger. If you pick it up without plugging it in, the trigger slides along without resistance. I’m easily impressed, but this really does seem like a little bit of magic....

Per Sony’s announcement tweet, you can download the app directly from the PlayStation site. 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 are both supported, and using it is pretty easy: just connect the controller via its USB cable and click through a full steps. The single catch is you can only update one controller at a time. This humble bit of software could end up being far more important than it looks....

Axiom Verge’s randomiser mode will shuffle where items are found in each run of the metroidvania, which can add variety, challenge, and surprise. Such modes recapture some of the fun of playing for the first time by encouraging us to explore everything, and add drama to return visits. You might blaze through and be blessed with powerful gear early, or struggle to get by. But you won’t get actually stuck....

It’s more accurately described as a grim, philosophical, story-focused noir game about collectivism vs. individualism, dressed up in the tropes of a detective puzzle game. Like The Good Place with more depression, or Disco Elysium with raccoons. Backbone isn’t as unrelenting or dense as Disco Elysium, but it progresses in a similar vein. About halfway through, for example, the detecting/solving a murder bit gets, for all intents and purposes, dropped entirely....
