Apparently this is the first time that a VR game has been run during GDQ and Buffet Time absolutely kicks it off with a show. More than one glitch he uses to bypass sections of Alyx involves getting down on his hands and knees to trick the game into changing his location in the world. Manage cookie settings During one section, Buffet crouches down on the ground, uses an accessibility option to make his character stand up, and then stands back up in real life to turn himself into a giant capable of climbing over parts of the level....

InXile Entertainment say that when the Steeltown story begins, important deliveries of armor and guns from the factory town have stopped and the Patriarch needs you to go check in on the town’s leader Abigail Markham. “When he sends the Rangers to investigate, they find the place is a powder keg with the fuse already lit,” they say. “The workers are striking, bandits raid with impunity, and nobody is allowed through the gates, not even on the business of the Patriarch....

To give you an idea of how lovely and new the remaster will look, here’s one of the comparison shots they posted a couple of months ago. The game is coming at a pretty good time for Wasteland fans too, as Wasteland 3, which we got a glimpse of at E3, releases a couple of months after on May 19th. Though, I realise this might leave you with a chunk of Wasteland lore missing, so you might as well have a play of Wasteland 2 while you have a couple months in-between 1 and 3....

Dynamic music Of all the cool things LucasArts made in video games (and there are many), perhaps the one which still feels most magical to me is iMuse. A technology used by games as diverse as Tie Fighter and Monkey Island 2, iMuse could dynamically escalate and shift music in response to in-game events with flourishes, transitions, different instruments, and different mixes (I’ll point you to game composer Peter Silk to explain more of that)....

XCOM 2 was good in the first place, then the expansion blew it up into a giant superhero story with allies and villains and some ridiculous abilities. This Yakuza: Remastered Collection is the same one that debuted on PlayStation 4 last year. This means they’ve been spruced up to 1080p and run at a smooth 60fps. Not to mention that they’ve been re-localised, and some cut content has been chucked back in too. It’s worth noting that you can purchase each game in the bundle separately, which is a nice touch. Having played them all, I’d say Yakuza 3 and 4 were good fun, but Yakuza 5 was the real chef kiss....

Both announcements came during today’s Hypnospace Next livestreamed presentation. Zane has been tweeting about the game for months now and yup, apparently it really is real, not just a Twitter bit. The in-fiction story is that Zane started making Slayers X in the 90s, then recently he found it on an old CD-ROM and has been finishing it up. Going by his Twitter, dude’s still a total dingus. And ignore his ‘Zane_Rocks_36’ handle, he’s actually 37, okay....

It’s a charming pixel art adventure game set in rural Indonesia in the late 90s, and it follows the story of a boy called Atma and his young friend Nirmala. At the beginning of the demo, they’re trying to finish writing a story together, but by the end of it Atma will have “space-dived” (space dove?) inside the minds of both Nirmala and a sleepy civil defence officer guarding a puzzle-critical ladder, petted some cats, acquired a mix-tape of keroncong music, and escaped the wrath of Nirmala’s angry dad....

Long before I was into this PC gaming lark, my wee brother and I would horde demo disks for the original Xbox (not to be confused with the Xbox One - thanks, Microsoft). Why shell out 40 quid for a full game anyway, when less than a tenner a month got you five to fifteen bite-sized gems? Every so often, our self-cannibalizing industry decides to punch my nostalgia in the gut by wrenching some obscure nonsense out of that demo pile....

Sometimes, it really works. See the sexy-ugly, heraldry-daubed WWI mechs of Iron Harvest, for example (this is technically Dieselpunk but… c’mon), or the hellish, in-steam-we-trust desperation of Frostpunk. Grand stuff. But for every masterstroke there’s a dozen lazy also-rans, where goggles, corsetry and pith helmets have been applied with abandon, like a sauce that somehow makes a meal taste more bland. In this desert of waxed moustaches, then, coming across a game like Airborne Kingdom, in which the whole concept has been approached with fresh eyes, feels like stumbling upon an oasis....

New World is a fairly PvP-heavy MMORPG, but it has plenty of quests for PvE-likers to get on with. I played a little bit during one of the beta weekends and surprised myself with how much I enjoyed it. I’m not usually an MMO fan, but this one has fun and active hack and slash combat, and good crafting to boot. In his New World preview, Ed said it has as much in common with Valheim as it does World Of Warcraft, and I’d agree....

AMD RX 6700 XT release date and price The RX 6700 is arriving on March 18th, which is just over two weeks away at time of writing. Both AMD and third party partner cards will be available on this date, and prices will start at $479 (UK pricing to be confirmed). Interestingly, $479 is actually closer to the initial price of Nvidia’s RTX 3070 GPU than the RTX 3060 Ti. The RTX 3070 started at $499, while the RTX 3060 Ti started at $399....

While AMD’s outgoing Ryzen 3000 CPUs weren’t as quick as their Intel counterparts when it came to gaming performance, their lower prices (and bundled coolers) often made up for it, making them great value options in the face of their Intel competition. The Ryzen 5 5600X, however, isn’t just more expensive than its immediate predecessor, the Ryzen 5 3600X. It also costs more than Intel’s monstrously powerful Core i5-10600K, which rather takes a sledgehammer to their previous value proposition....
