Watch its new trailer below. We’ve written about Potionomics a couple of times before, with an early look at its character art in 2019 and an initial teaser trailer in 2020. There’s more to it than even I mentioned above, though, given you’re also able to hire heroes, customise your store and romance fellow vendors. It’s the haggling system that most interests me. It looks like you’ll collect cards from the adventurers you befriend around town, with each character having a deck of cards you can choose from....

My Zomboid character was modeled as close to me as possible, which ended up being a very bad character build. Zomboid asks you to pick from a list of positive and negative traits, and I got a lot of negatives. A sleepy, clumsy, disorganised guy with poor eyesight and hearing. Oh, and he’s scared of anything gory. This does not bode well. Still, I think he’s poised for greatness. Most classic heroes are defined by their flaws, after all....

Now you can more easily play Threewave CTF again. Bethesda announced during Quakecon today that Threewave Capture The Flag was now part of their enhanced Quake release, with nine maps, the grappling hook and new improvements. Threewave CTF was developed by Zoid Kirsch and initially released in 1996. The mod evolved over time to also include a grappling hook and four power-up runes for teams to fight over, and eventually became popular enough that Kirsch was hired by id Software to make the mode a native inclusion in Quake 2 and Quake 3....

First up, Thorn. She’s an Irish technical weapons expert whose unique gadget is the Razorbloom Shell, which sounds a lot like a grenade full of blades. Very technical. She can stick it to surfaces, and when it detects enemies it explodes launching little stabbers in all directions. This gadget can kill a player outright, so those’ll be fun for attackers to look out for. Next up is the Outback rework....

The newly rechristened Riot Sydney are one of the largest development studios in Australia, and have been around for more than 25 years. “The Rioters that have had the opportunity to work with members of the Sydney team are confident not only in the tech they’ve built over the years but, more importantly, in the people who’ve built it,” said Riot co-founder Marc Merrill. Wargaming Sydney’s MMO middleware Bigworld Technology was what saw them become part of Wargaming a decade ago, but that isn’t part of the acquisition....

Valorant will have 5v5 round-based matches decided by “best-of-24-rounds”. 24? Riot call it “a game of precise skill, high stakes, lethal gameplay, and clutch moments that rewards creative gameplay styles.” Players will be planting and defusing bombs, buying weapons at the start of rounds, going down in a few hits, and hanging around a lot of crates - all looking quite CS-y. Then Overwatchness comes in with the choice of characters who have unique technomagic abilities....

Never lacking for ambition, Riot’s new shooter is calling some tough shots. It’s taking on two established titans in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Overwatch - and doing it well (or not-so-well, depending on who you ask). It wants to ramp up the war against cheating with a controversial anti-cheat that never sleeps. But one thing it hasn’t yet put to rest is the willingness of certain folks to, frankly, lose their entire shit when they hear a woman’s voice over comms....

Ars Technica report that the new guidelines issued by Rockstar were in response to an RP server created in September by rapper and GTA Online player Lil Durk. Called The Trenches, this community was advertising integration with brands and an NFT drop for access to stuff exclusive to the server. Rockstar’s statement came a few days before Trenches were told by the developer to shut down their activities, and it was updated a few days later, but the timing may have been coincidental....

This week, Valve failed in their attempt to have the jury’s decision overturned. Valve’s lawyers had requested a judgement as a matter of law - essentially arguing that there was insufficient evidence in the case and asking for the judge to make a new ruling, or requesting a new trial. As reported by the Esports Observer, the judge rejected the request. The ruling quotes Valve’s own lawyer calling the case straightforward during the trial, before concluding that, “The Court agrees that this case is straightforward and can be decided on the ’525 Patent and the accused device....

“Based on feedback we received, we’ve made a decision to cancel anything NFT-related in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2,” reads the post. “The interests of our fans and players are the top priority for the team. We’re making this game for you to enjoy - whatever the cost is. If you care, we care too.” The cancellation of NFTs arrived an hour or so after the official Stalker Twitter account tweeted a much longer image aiming to explain their decision to include blockchain technology....

“While this approach does come at an extra cost to Sega Europe, this is in part offset by cheaper distribution – lighter packaging means lower fuel costs, and cheaper destruction costs as the package can be fully recycled,” Sega Europe say. The company explain that their new packaging has a box of “100% recycled and recyclable cardboard,” the manual is also “100% recycled and recyclable manual,” and “all printing uses water and vegetable inks, apart from the disc,” while the whole thing is shrinkwrapped in “100% recyclable low-density polyethylene (LDPE)....

“The upcoming Anniversary Edition of Skyrim is going to be much more disruptive to the modding scene than is commonly believed,” warned “extrwi” of the Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE) team on Reddit yesterday. SKSE is a tool which lets mods do more than Skyrim’s official mod tools allow, tapping deeper into the game to do fancier things. Many, many mods rely on SKSE, and some mods tap deeper into Skyrim in other ways....

The demo includes three modes, which are described in a post on Steam: “score-focused play in the standard run mode, searching for a derelict megastructure in the sample campaign mission and the ultimate sandbox chill of the endless mode.” Slipways is about forming a trade network between planets. Each planet needs a resource and produces a resource, and you need to link your solar system together in a way that the population of every planet is kept happy....

Tower Studios announced the coming release via the game’s site, saying that they’d partnered with Kiss Publishing to bring the game to PC and consoles. The new release will apparently have enhanced graphics, AI, updated teams, and a battle pass. The same press release also says that Sociable Soccer was “originally released in 2019 via Apple Arcade for iOS,” but Sociable Soccer’s history is more storied than that. It was originally launched on Kickstarter in 2015, which flopped, and eventually released in Steam Early Access in 2017....

Somerville has clear stylistic parallels to Playdead’s work. Its 3D sidescrolling and light puzzle mechanics are similar, and the beautiful lighting effects and minimalist environments have led a lot of people to initially confuse Somerville as a Playdead game. Tonally, however, Somerville is in a league all of its own. While I won’t spoil what happens to the toddler, Somerville’s protagonist is actually the father. After the ominous shaking actually turns out to be an alien invasion, he gets separated from the rest of his family and has to set off to find them....

It’s pretty fun to take advantage of all your card draw and stay healed while you whack out some powerful Soul Fragment synergies - this one will give you massive burst damage by attacking with your Hero. Squeenix say, “The game features dual protagonists, which offer different story perspectives and gameplay experiences: Raymond, the captain of the space trading ship, Ydas, and Laeticia, the princess-knight of a kingdom on an underdeveloped plane.” And would believe it, fate would bring their stories together? Classic fate right there. I don’t believe in fate, but I will acknowledge fate. If I do something that clearly would be considered tempting fate, then the bad thing happens to me, I will shrug and accept that yep, I tempted fate....

There’s not a lot here, but what there is has made me very happy. I’ve officially given up trying to mod Kerbal Space Program after watching the work being put into the skies and terrain for the second game. I’ll happily wait to split these clouds with my best attempt at a rocket. The Mun really caught my eye. It’s gorgeous. Every shade of grey imaginable, covered in overlapping impact craters, shadows piling up in every scoop of dirt....
