Here’s the first trailer. It’s just a nice gate opening up. The game was revealed last night during Slitherine’s Home Of Wargames announceathon. “Stargate: Timekeepers departs from the end of Season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 main plot to create a wholly original story starting during the Battle of Antarctica, where Command Eva McCain and her team are tasked with supporting the SG-1 against Anubis’s fleet,” it says in the trailer description....
I am usually catastrophically bad at these games, as I lack the sheer nerve to commit all my assets to something at once, or take out loans to cover a product run, even in a fictional digital setting. Still, I was drawn to Startup Panic like a moth to a flame, and giggled to myself at the prospect of cosplaying as a Silicon Valley nerd trying to reinvent having a chicken coop....
“First and foremost, we’re on track to ship Steam Deck on time. Global pandemic, supply issues, and shipping issues notwithstanding, it looks like we’ll be able to start getting these out the door by the end of February”, so says the post. That should be good news to anyone who’s already paid the £4 reservation fee, though it’s worth remembering that the “expected order availability” of Steam Decks ticked over from late 2021 to early 2022 quite quickly after reservations opened....
They’ve now launched onto the live version of Steam, letting you browse games by sub-genre, theme, and how many players they support. Valve explained the changes in a blog post. “A basic list of genres, while easy to browse, falls a bit short given how diverse the Steam catalog has become. Our new Categories menu helps users quickly discover and dive into the breadth and depth of interesting games on Steam....
This year’s Digital Tabletop Fest is running from Friday, October 22 to Sunday the 24th. Like last year, it’ll be reeling in some sales on games and some livestreamed chats with developers. Valve are bringing out the big dice this year, pulling in developers from Larian Studios of Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldurs Gate 3 along with Zaum Studio of Disco Elysium fame. They’re both perhaps pretty far into the “inspired by” tabletop games end of the allowable spectrum, but I imaging that chat will be particularly interesting to listen to....

Weirdly, but sort of awesomely, Summer Game Fest 2022 will be screening in IMAX cinemas in the UK, United States and Canada. Tickets go on sale from May 12th. It’ll be odd seeing Geoff up on the silver screen, but I’m hoping it’ll be a bit like when he turned up as a hologram in Death Stranding. Apparently, The Game Awards in December will also be shown on IMAX screens....
Initiated by Brandon Sheffield of Necrosoft Games following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Bundle For Ukraine launched on Itch.io overnight. All proceeds will be split between the International Medical Corps, helping civilians in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, and Voices Of Children, providing psychological help for children traumatised by war. Pay at least $10 and you’ll get a lot, though of course you can pay more. The bundle’s 991 items include almost 600 video games, over 300 physical games, plus game-making assets, books, comics, soundtracks, and more....
The announcement is vague, simply saying that the show would be “a live-action series based on the critically acclaimed System Shock franchise”. That could come out in many different shapes. The producer is Binge’s Allan Ungar, who’s best known for directing and co-writing that live-action Uncharted fan film with Nathan Fillion. But yeah, seems they are talking System Shock 1 specifically. “I’ve always believed that a live-action adaptation of System Shock would be the perfect medium to retell the harrowing story of Citadel station and its rogue AI that subjects the crew to unimaginable horror,” Nighdive CEO Stephen Kick said....

Microsoft say this fancy version of the usual Xbox Wireless Controller “is a fresh spin on the translucent green of the original Xbox Debug kit. The body of the controller features a translucent black finish with silver internals so you can see every detail. The nostalgic, green Xbox button brings us back to the first green Xbox logo. The iconic color can also be found on the back grips and around the hybrid D-pad....
That’s if you can forgive the slightly wonky wording, as there aren’t really “Steam Deck games” as such: as creators Valve are always keen to point out, it’s basically a handheld PC, not its own platform. Some games might not run well enough on it, or are too reliant on mouse and keyboard controls to play comfortably, but big chunks of your existing Steam library should be at least playable on the Steam Deck as soon as they finish installing....
Naturally, then, when I spoke with AoE franchise creative director Adam Isgreen and game director Quinn Duffy following the show, there was one question I needed to ask more than any other. Indeed, so urgent was I to know, that I entirely forgot to say hello or introduce myself, instead opening the interview by blurting, “so, we’ll be able to shoot bees, then?” I certainly know how to make an entrance....

You, as engineer Isaac Clarke, were luckily armed with a laser cutting device with which to slice off those limbs. It was interesting and scary and well-scoped, and difficult enough to jam microtransactions into that EA rapidly led the series astray across its two sequels....
