Echtra broke the release date in an news post today, announcing platform-specific “glittersprites” with us PC folks getting the purple variety as our exclusive. Personally, I prefer dungeon-diving with a pup at my side. It’s been something of a bumpy ride to get here, mind. Formed of folks from now-defunct Torchlight 1 and 2 devs Runic, Echtra Games initially pitched their follow-up as Torchlight Frontiers. But earlier this year, the devs scrapped their persistent, live-service plans in favour of a more traditional entry, ditching the Frontiers moniker and reworking the game into a more traditional sequel....

Conducted by Ukie (the UK Interactive Entertainment trade body), the census revealed that female representation in the games industry “is significantly under the national average” - with 70% of people working in games being male, just 28% female, and 2% non-binary. On top of that, 31% of UK game workers that answered the survey said they live with anxiety and depression, nearly doubling the national average of 17%. The stats also show that people from BAME (Black and Minority Ethnic) backgrounds make up only 10% of the industry, which is below the average of the BAME working population....

Released a few days ago, the first-person view mod for Valheim lets you zoom the camera inwards in order to trigger a first-person mode. The mod’s description says that there are some issues around using shields and bows, but it’s nothing game breaking, and fixes are in the works. You’ll need the BepInExPack for Valheim installed first. It’s a set of tools and libraries for allowing modding of Unity games, and it’s what makes Valheim mods possible in lieu of official support....

“The aquila-eyed amongst you will note this is later than planned,” developers Fatshark said in today’s announcement. “To us here at Fatshark, it’s paramount that we deliver the best 4-player co-op experience possible.” And so, they have “decided to extend production time”. Let’s start with the “experimental” aiming sytem, in which “the camera controls are preserved while aiming.” Here’s a video of it briefly in action: Weird West’s twin-stick controls were trickier to make work in 3D than you might initially expect, although the controls in general are also one of the main thing’s I’ve seen people criticise most. Oh sure, romance is always popular (y’all decided that it’s even better than de_dust2) and mega-budget games have lately been enamoured with familial responsibilities redeeming deadly dads, but it’s friendships I most crave. Where to find Briars in New World The first bit of good news is that you shouldn’t need to travel a great distance to find Briars, as they can be found in the Windsward region where you pick up the quest. The second bit of good news is that you can narrow your search down to the riverbanks in the first instance, since Briars are greatly more likely to be found there than anywhere else on the map....
