Fair warning, I’m about to drop some spoilers for The Expanse here (not for Season 5 though! I haven’t seen any of that myself just yet), so read on at your own risk. Throughout The Expanse’s third season, main character (and Shepard-like) James Holden has alien visions of his dead pal who’s telling him how to save the galaxy. It’s like an alien hologram that only he can see, and occasionally he gets caught talking to it....
Here it is: The Finals is being developed by Embark Studios, a new company founded by some former developers from the Battlefield series. You can see the lineage. While there’s a sorta game show framing device around it, including enemies that turn into coins when killed, you’re otherwise running around real world environments and then blowing those environments to bits. That destruction looks far more granular than anything in Battlefield....
It’s taken a few months for us to get here, mind. Initially slated for a release last December, the first part of two-part expansion Genesis was delayed into January, then February, for some last-minute polishing and balancing. Rather than offering up one huge map, Genesis launches with five smaller new biomes (or “simulations”) to poke around in. These include vast oceans, volcanic hellscapes, and an alien moon packed with spacefaring whales and deadly solar radiation....

To summarise, The Last Starship is a bit like Prison Architect, if your prison could fly through space, had guns on the side of it, and could take on dangerous interstellar missions. The video above focuses first on a rescue mission, in which a ship is damaged and will explode within a certain time limit once you arrive in the area. Developers Chris Delay and Mark Morris spend some time ordering their crew to outfit the ship in preparation for the mission, mostly by adding new weapons to deal with the hostiles also in the area....
Last Call BBS takes place inside the desktop environment of a 1990s PC. Dialing into an old bulletin board system, named Last Call BBS, we’re downloading pirated software and learning a little about the history of fictional software and fictional people. It packs eight games and so far I’ve grown flesh and bone in a biomechanical horror puzzler, plopped down conveyer builts and connected logic circuits to prepare food in industrial kitchens (a game made in-fiction by ‘Zachmatics’), built an anime robot kit and painted it poorly, instantly noped out of designing microchips, and—of course—played some solitaire....
The official Star Wars website announced yesterday that “Lucasfilm Games is now the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm, a name that encompasses the company’s rich catalog of video games and its eye toward the future.” They also shared “a special sizzle reel celebrating the history of games from Lucasfilm”: That’s a whole lot of Star Wars for a brand name that wasn’t originally involved in Star Wars....
Steam Game Festivals are roughly week-long events held by Valve every few months, offering tons of demos for people to try out, as well as live streams and developer panels to watch. According to the info on Steam’s marketing documents, developers can only enter a demo for this year’s summer event if the game hasn’t already been featured at the winter 2021 or autumn 2020 Game Festivals. This could mean there are a few less game to try out, seeing as each Festival tends to have some the same demos as previous events....
It seems likely that the next Tomb Raider is extremely early in development. It was only announced earlier this year, with only the details that it will be another singleplayer narrative adventure and that it will use Unreal Engine 5. Other than that, it remains untitled and we have no idea how it might connect with Crystal Dynamics’ previous Tomb Raider trilogy. Since that announcement, Crystal Dynamics has been bought - along with the Tomb Raider IP - by Embracer Group from previous owners Square Enix....
