Oh No Atari Have Bought Mobygames

MobyGames is fantastic. It’s a vast database filled by volunteers with information on almost 300,000 games from over 300 platforms spanning decades. It has room for screenshots, artwork, credits, box art, marketing materials, editions, international releases, critic reviews, player reviews, trivia, and more. Like IMDB, but video games. It’s hugely impressive and hugely useful. I turn to MobyGames when a press release claims someone working on a new game was the “creator” of a much-beloved classic, and looking in the credits usually turns up that they were, like, a junior programmer....

Old World Ventures Out Of Epic Exclusivity Today To Invade Steam And Gog

However, Heroes Of The Aegean will be free to keep for the first two weeks after Old World releases. The DLC introduces some of Greece’s greatest historical leaders such as King Leonidas of 300 sweaty-men renown and Alexander the Great of ridiculously coiffured Colin Farrell infamy. They better have war-elephants. There’s quite a few intriguing scenarios from 200 years of Hellenic history included, from the Battle of Thermopylae to conquering Greece as Macedonia with Philip II, so not too shabby for a freebie....

One Minecraft Player Created Their Own Cover Of Toto S Hit Africa In The Game

I’m impressed that Stacinator committed to crafting the whole 4-minutes-and-21-seconds-long radio edit of Africa rather than just a short snippet. The project required 17,000 note blocks and 19,000 block commands to pull the whole performance off. Stacinator explained that they used “every single fricking note block sound in the game” to achieve the remarkably convincing cover. “This project for me was a culmination of a bunch of different ideas that I at one point thought were all beyond my capabilities,” Stacinator commented on their Reddit post, “so I’m really proud of what I’ve learned....

One Of My Favourite Jrpg Series Of The Last Decade Is Finally On Pc And I M Over The Moon

In some ways, it’s not surprising that Bravely Default is such a good study of that classic Final Fantasy vibe. After all, it was originally conceived as a sequel to the also-excellent Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes Of Light spin-off for the Nintendo DS (which really took the series back to its roots when it came out in 2009 / 2010), and the latter’s producer, Tomoya Asano, also came over to produce the first Bravely Default game....

Outpost Is A Co Op Shooter About Building A Base And Battling Swarms

Now, many moons ago, I used to be big into Activision’s Battlezone and Pandemic Studios’s excellent follow-up Battlezone 2: Combat Commander. Outpost looks like it has a similar combo of combat and base-building, so that’s piqued my interest. You’ll need to shoot things, obvs, but then you can collect resources scattered around the map to invest in building structures and characters back at your home base. There’s online co-op to throw into the mix too....

Overwatch 2 Will Make Murderbot Bastion More Mobile

The devs say Bastion’s sweet new headwear is to help him stand out and “add a touch of character”. Lucky for you I know far too much about Overwatch’s lore, and it seems that’s a nod to Torbjorn. The little engineer took Bastion in and looked after him, and now the bot is wearing one of his adoptive dad’s hats. It’s adorable. Alright, so that isn’t the most important part of his rework....

Pavlov Vr Is Now A Proper World War 2 Game With Tanks And Everything

Some people come of age by holding a boombox above their heads outside the window of a person they like. I came of age on a Quakenet IRC room, talking about whatever mods and maps I’d downloaded from Fileplanet that day. VR development frequently brings back memories of that scene, and nothing more so than “our FPS has vehicles in it now.” Pavlov VR’s tanks fit three players inside to drive and man the guns, and arrive alongside a new mode called Tank TDM....

Phasmophobia S Beta Branch Is Its Scariest Feature

Phasmophobia has been getting pretty regular updates since it launched last September, from the addition of the prison map to smarter ghost AI and other improvements. But the real action is on the game’s beta branch where changes and bug fixes come in almost daily. Already this week, there have been four beta branch updates with changes such as “The ghost will now leave fingerprint evidence when opening doors in a hunt” and “alive players will now lose 15 sanity each time a player dies”....

Phoenix Point S Corrupted Horizons Will Open Up On October 1St

Corrupted Horizon’s biggest new enemy is the Acheron, a four-legged strider that heefs corruption around a level. Units affected by corruption take a hit to their willpower, and as attacks stack your units can become unable to use some of their abilities. Mutoids, meanwhile, are immune. Players Are Pulling Wild Stunts With Call Of Duty Warzone S Vehicles

I’d like you to enjoy these videos in particular, where two players park their helicopters on top of each other while another downs an entire squad with their quad bike. You’ll catch some players complaining about how easy it is to kill people with vehicles, but those players are easy to ignore. Personally, I am too busy laughing at this, the best quad kill in videogames. (Beware of the obnoxious shouting, and turn your volume down or off....

Playing Sea Of Thieves With My Younger Brother Is Our Most Effective Bonding Method In Years

We don’t really have much in common. Not in politics, or interests, or, as described above, general mass. Most of the time we are together, we end up arguing. He does like video games, though. He calls me up to ask which of the new ones are worth getting, and is very excited about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. But what with the lockdown, he wanted games we could play together, and I suggested Sea Of Thieves....

Please Welcome Our New Hardware Editor James Archer

Many of you will have no doubt seen James’ work around the site for a good while now. While he officially started as our new hardware editor at the end of August, James has actually written for RPS on many occasions over the last few years. He was the one I turned to help fill out some of the very early graphics card reviews I wanted on the site when I first started as hardware editor back in the heady days of 2017, and even before that he was our primo Dota 2 correspondent, telling us everything we needed to know about all of the various majors from 2015 and that year’s The International....
