As we know, E3 was cancelled because of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic. June’s fast approaching though, so publishers and developers who would’ve been up on stages saying pretty words like “the next decade of gaming” are now detailing their online-only backup plans. Ubisoft are officially doing their own “E3-style showcase” set for July. Aside from the fact that it is occurring, that’s about all they have to say. Ubisoft’s announcement is quite brief....

Speaking of spoilers, I’ve already spoiled this week’s theme which is a 1v1 quiz to the death. Imogen and I throw some questions at each other for glory and supremacy. Not money or anything like that; that would be silly. It was Imogen’s turn to surprise me with some odd or amusing player names we’ve encountered on our FPS travels. This time we have a short discussion about Babybels and Dracula....

Technically, V Rising has been lowercase P-playable on the Steam Deck since late May, when these software improvements appeared on the ‘Bleeding Edge’ branch of Proton Experimental. A scientific pioneer by the name of “an0nymooose” has created “Bonemod”, a Valheim mod that lets you change the scale of your character’s body parts through a variety of chat commands. Regional pricing on the storefront is done so that lower-income areas can get games cheaper. Those who use VPNs (virtual private networks that let you get around geo-restrictions and, say, pretend you’re using the internet in France) have taken advantage of this in the past to get their games for extremely low prices, which, in some cases, has forced publishers to up the price of their games in those low-income countries to stop people from doing that....

Sorry, I lied, I’m still going to write opinions underneath this trailer. Although my opinion is that I like it. It does a good job of establishing the against-the-odds co-op battle and the expendability of your characters, and I like the look of some of the gadgets. Underworlds Online is, as far as I can tell, a pretty direct and faithful adaptation, which is part of where my problem comes in. I don’t know how much of my problem with the game is down to something being lost in translation from tableland, or whether the design itself is a bit lacklustre. At the time of writing, only bot matches are available, but they did an adequate job, and I don’t see another player making a vast difference unless you have a prior relationship, which doesn’t count....

The game is an FPS for perfectionists and speed junkies who want to look cool. It’s quite literally a time attack with a learning curve that’s worth investing in. Sure, the littlest mistakes can mean disaster, but when you take time to master a course, it’s a payoff you’ll remember. Rally games like WRC 10 or DiRT Rally 2.0 are more complex than you’d think. The sheer speed of the whole affair is, well, fast, but it’s what’s going on under the hood that really gets my gear stick shifting....
