In my eyes, the arrival of both the Series X and PlayStation 5 this week mark a watershed moment for PC gaming. In some ways they are more cutting edge than what’s currently plugged into our monitors. Their ray tracing-capable AMD RDNA 2 graphics architecture, completely PCIe 4.0-based ecosystem and supercharged storage tech are all coming to PC, of course (some sooner than others), but having spent a couple of weeks with Microsoft’s new console box, there’s no denying it’s an impressive machine for its size and price....

The community reaction to the new makeup was, err… mixed at best, and in particular, people did not like the Sperm Eyeliner. I will say up front that I don’t know what makes the Mac makeup collection particularly Mac-y. I have seen it alleged that it was designed in conjunction with someone from Mac. Maybe it is a perfect colour match for some of Mac’s shades. I dunno. It’s just Mac makeup that everyone got for free, whether they wanted it or not - sort of like that time that iTunes gave everyone U2’s new album....

For today, there’s just a teaser trailer of yer mafia men all talkin’ about “family” in extremely serious Chicago accents. The real announcement is to come next Tuesday, May 19th at 5pm BST / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT over on the Mafia website, 2K say. I don’t suppose 2K intended to have a store page live yet, but the link to one is already circulating. On the Microsoft Store page, 2K say that the Mafia: Definitive Edition is “re-made from the ground up,” and that it’s been “faithfully recreated, with expanded story, gameplay and original score....

This new production doesn’t replicate Shakespeare’s work entirely, choosing to adapt elements to fit with the medium it’s being performed in. The warring clans of Montagues and Capulets are instead raiders and settlers, and the whole thing is only about an hour long. Romeo and Juliet isn’t the first play the Wasteland Theatre Company have produced for Fallout 76. They’ve already performed MacBeth, or the Scottish Play, and held a festival of Shakespearean sonnets....

The trailer is worth watching for its own sake, but also comes with news: Requiem will launch on October 18th, forwarding another fantasy called ‘What if a game actually came out in 2022 and wasn’t delayed until next year?’. Here’s the video: Requiem continues the story from A Plague Tale: Innocence, with Amicia and her rat-powered brother Hugo seeking to survive in a world where they’re hunted by plague swarms of cold-footted wannabe chefs and by rat-bastard human beings....

Would ya lookit that, Isolation is on our list of best horror games and, despite involving technically more first-person hiding than shooting, also best FPS games. Adam Smith (RPS in pieces) says Isolation is “a superbly detailed trip into the world that Ridley Scott and his team brought to the screen three and a half decades ago.” He speaks highly of its equal handling of Ripley’s search for answers about her mother and the larger picture of a declining corporation....

The day my preview went live, Capcom showed off a couple of additional bits as part of a hefty Resident Evil showcase. Alongside a fresh story trailer the company also discussed the various gubbins you’ll receive if you fork out for the game’s special edition as well as a short gameplay demonstration. Surprising no one, I’ve watched these clips so many times I now have a load of thoughts that are not only completely useless but are taking up vital brain space I usually reserve for things like pin numbers and dates....

It’s part of a big relaunch. Valve have also mentioned some changes they’re making to the game itself, including allowing “players to access all three lanes at once”. That’s pretty wild, too. Not selling cards at all is an unusual move, but probably a wise one. I wasn’t the only one who thought the game massively favoured those who splurged, at least in constructed play. Valve say they “have some ideas about what we’d like to sell, but none of them are cards/packs....

As far as big Ubisoft releases go, we’re hardly looking at another Assassin’s Creed Unity. Still, there are a few pesky issues you should watch out for before you set off on your high-performance longboat. Before we even get into the game itself, though, it looks like a fair few folks have been having trouble getting into Valhalla’s world in the first place. Folks across the forums and Reddit are reporting that, in some cases, Valhalla isn’t appearing in their libraries after purchase....

You don’t play Harry Potter, just a normal schoolkid trying to get through their first wizarding semester. There’s “no overarching plot to do with He Who Must Not Be Named, or anything like that”. That’s fine. I glimpsed some sliding block puzzles that remind me of EA’s official Harry Potter games from the early 2000s, which isn’t exactly high praise but scores points for nostalgia, the most magical of all emotions....

It’s not, though. It’s a turn-based JRPG that just finished two years in Steam Early Access to launch in full today. Edge Of Eternity was originally Kickstarted way back in 2015, with a team of four people leading its development. It then launched in early access in 2018, unpolished but with modding support and a ten-hour runtime. Now it’s development has grown to 14 and its runtime has grown to a claimed 50+ hours....
