Cyberpunk 2077 has had rather an interesting journey so far, and the bumpy ride afforded by its sub-par launch has thrown the game’s future prospects up in the air - multiplayer included. In Darkest Dungeon 2, you’ll commit to a squad of heroes before venturing out in a stagecoach, stopping at inns, settlements, watchtowers and, of course, battles, as you go. Your progress each run goes towards unlocking abilities, items and more to help you in your next. One of my favourite parts of DD2 so far is that it’s a lot more character-focused than the original. You’ll learn more about your Hellion, Highwayman and more as you travel....

The setting and its crows and froggy beefcakes is interesting, but there’s nothing in the combat I haven’t seen before. There’s dodge-dashing, fast switching between melee slashing and firing arrows, and well-telegraphed attacks from various bosses. Does that matter? Probably not when it’s done well, and Death’s Door is from Acid Nerve, the two-person (and friends) team responsible for 2015’s Titan Souls....

First, the longest-term news from associate game director Joe Blackburn’s 3600-word post: this autumn’s annual expansion, The Witch Queen, is delayed into early 2022. Partially it’s because the pandemic got in the way, and partially because they want to make it proper good as Destiny’s story approaches some sort of conclusion. Players had expected that end to come in that Lightfall, the 2022 expansion, but apparently not - in two ways....

The Beyond Light expansion will start Year 4 of Destiny 2 on November 10th as it sends us to the icy moon of Europa to continue investigating/flirting with The Darkness. Four content seasons will come across the year, starting with Season Of The Hunt on the same day. That season will pick up a plot thread that’s been dangling for a while, the resurrection of Uldren Sov. After we helped whack Uldren at the end of Forsaken, we saw his rebirth in a hidden cutscene in December 2018, then he vanished....

Disc World Room is comin’ at ya as a collaboration between a bunch of folks wot have done the indie game thing before. High Hell developer Terri Vellmann is teaming up with those Minit folks JW Nijman and Kitty Calis. Nijman is also half of Vlambeer who are known for these sorts of fast-paced bang-bang things. Excellent soundtrack slinger Doseone, who you’ll recognise from Enter The Gungeon, joins the squad as well....

This comes after Martin Luiga announced (in a frankly kinda weird post) the dissolution of The ZA/UM Cultural Association, and that Kurvitz, writer Helen Hindpere, and art director Aleksander Rostov were no longer working at Studio ZA/UM. ZA/UM the dev studio business entity is separate from ZA/UM the Estonian countercultural artistic movement. Disco Elysium is set in the same world as Kurvitz’s book The Sacred And Terrible Air, as well as a long-running custom D&D world that predates both ZA/UMs....

You are able to play alongside PC users on mobile and vice versa. There’s a case to be made about mobile players being at an advantage thanks to being able to have blank names, but to be fair it’s a little tougher to control on mobile so maybe it balances out....

Doom Eternal Mars Core collectables guide The seventh mission of Doom Eternal has 20 collectable items. You’ll also need to find the various secret encounter locations and the Slayer Key, so it’s no mean feat to get everything. As always, it’s worth noting that getting to the end of the mission enables Fast Travel so you can pick up collectables that you missed. The automap also helps here and the automap is found when accessing the core from the maintenance shaft....

Unhappily, that also means going back to no anti-cheat software at all for the time being. Id make no mention of an immediate replacement. Instead, executive producer Marty Stratton says: “As we examine any future of anti-cheat in Doom Eternal, at a minimum we must consider giving campaign-only players the ability to play without anti-cheat software installed, as well as ensure the overall timing of any anti-cheat integration better aligns with player expectations around clear initiatives – like ranked or competitive play – where demand for anti-cheat is far greater....

They’re still going to start selling The International Battle Pass soon, with 25% of each purchase going to the prize pool. That gives them many more months of funding, which is canny. Expect big number. Here’s the most pertinent bit of Valve’s statement: “We have been exploring various date possibilities, but it is likely that the event will need to happen in 2021. Given the highly volatile landscape for local gathering restrictions, virus trajectory, and global travel policies, we don’t expect to have enough confidence to communicate firm dates in the near future....

Drag… god. Jesus christ. Dwagonbown Goes UwU (or, more correctly, dwagonbown goes uwu) is an overhaul mod that turns you into the worst person in Skyrim. It does nothing, really, except it changes most of your dialogue options to be, well, uwu. If you’re not familiar with the concept, please for the love of god stop now. Save yourself. There is no value in this knowledge. Alright, it’s on your head though....

EA have said they expect to recover 40% of the saves, the wallies. The issues actually began around Monday December 26th, when EA first tweeted they were “aware of players experiencing connection issues when trying to connect to CFM.” On Wednesday they said “users should now be able to play CFM without issue”, but no, no they could not. Last Saturday EA confirmed they’d messed up, saying that “if you logged into Franchise leagues during this time, your data was affected due to a data storage issue that resulted in Franchise files being corrupted”, and that the team were “projecting around 40% of leagues to be recovered”....

It’s been six years since Eidos Montreal’s last stab at Deus Ex, so it feels like there’s been a decent length of time between that and any new take on the series. The development studio’s new owner, Embracer Group, said earlier this year that they saw “great potential” in more games in the Deus Ex series, as well as other acquired IP such as Tomb Raider and Legacy Of Kain....

The four-day week is an increasingly popular concept, though we haven’t seen it implemented much. The thinking is that when employees have more time to themselves, they’re grinding their minds and bodies and lives to shreds less, so they’ll be more productive during the hours that they do work. Trials in Iceland were declared an “overwhelming success”, with productivity improving or at least remaining the same in most workplaces. When the Elden Ring system requirements landed on Steam with a dull, disappointing thud, I’d admit to some worry about FromSoftware’s latest would perform on PC. If the minimum recommended graphics card is a GTX 1060, how hard will it be to travel the Lands Between on the highest quality settings? Or at 4K? Would this game kill PCs like it kills player characters? Nope. As it turns out, Elden Ring will perfectly manageable on a range of hardware, and even if you do want to up the frame rate, there are over a dozen custom graphics options to help you get there....
