The real Outerverse launched into early access this month, made by Tbjbu2. It’s a craft-o-fighty game about travelling through space, stopping on planets along the way to build giant automated industries and fight big bosses. The real Outerverse is in early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store. What it’s definitely not is part of the blockchain cryptoverse metafiction. Outverse publishers Freedom Games say it’s being ripped off by the so-called Outerverse Metaverse & Decentralized Platform, a website which appears to be a version of Outerverse using cryptocurrency for… something?...

A game so slick Graham called it “your next roguelite crush”, Scourgebringer is tearing a hole out of early access on October 21st. I briefly got very, very into Scourgebringer, and have been waiting for it to bulk up with more levels and baddies since that initial release. While it’s been described as being a bit Celeste, it really rewards you for touching the floor and walls as little as possible - embodying raw fury as a white-haired death orb leaping from hapless bug to killer robot while metal riffs shred in the background....

Here’s the trailer released to announce the expansion at E3 2021: The PotC-themed stuff is only part of what forms Sea Of Thieves season three, but it’s substantial. Called A Pirate’s Life, its an original story featuring Jack Sparrow and Davy Jones from that one good film and four bad films. Please do not head to our comments section to show your whole ass, thanks. I suspect the rest of season three is more exciting to seasoned (weyyyy) Sea Of Thieves players....

That one’s called Hunters Of The Deep, and collecting enough Shark Teeth will unlock cosmetic items from the Shrouded Ghost ship set. This is your opportunity to nab items from that set before you have to pay real money for them in The Pirate Emporium. The second time-limited event on offer is called the Summer Of Sea Of Thieves, and it’s a collection of challenges that can earn you cosmetics, titles and some in-game money to spend....

As list-goblin Brendy demonstrated, Session is already a phenomenal gif generator - and only even broke one bone in doing so. This week, update 0.0.0.4 brings Session one step closer to its handheld, low-angle roots with a new Local Filmer Mode? Let’s start with that Local Filmer Mode, aye? Plugging in a second controller - either locally or through Steam Remote Play, will let a second player act as your dedicated camera operator....

Kerbal Space Program is about designing your own rockets and blowing them up on the launchpad until you finally internalise enough about physics to get one into orbit. Then the real fun begins, as you learn how to dock ships together, touch down on the Mun, and expand across the solar system. It’s fantastic and free to keep from the Epic Games Store from now until January 12th at 4pm GMT/11am ET....

Here’s the video: I’m not able to run games in 4K and I’ve yet to be impressed by ray tracing, but I suppose they’re rather like the canary in the coal mine. If a blockbuster PC game doesn’t have them, perhaps that’s an indication of broader problems. There are also other features here I am grateful for, including an uncapped framerate and the customisation options to tweak whatever graphics settings you want....

Folds Of A Separation is a series of little labyrinths set amongst the gutters and rooftops of a strange flooding city. Enter on the left side, try to leave on the right. The screen is split vertically in half, with each side having two possible layouts you can switch between while standing in the opposite half. You might be standing at a dead end now, but switch the other half and you could find a way....

Here’s the teaser trailer from last night’s stream. It doesn’t show much, just some fiery roman numerals and a smoldering Dragon Quest logo. It’s a very nice logo, though. At the end of that trailer, the Japanese voiceover asks: “What is the purpose of life?” Which seems rather moody indeed. Horii mentions that there will be choices involved, too, saying: “You’re in control of the game or your life.” How sinister....

Bloomberg Japan relayed a report from CTFN, who’d heard from two bankers that several parties were interested in buying Square Enix. They didn’t know if they were talking about the whole company or the video games part or what (they have a manga arm, for one). This was vague, but Squeenix share prices did go up a fair amount afterwards. I’m noting that purely because it happened, not because I believe the stock market is anything other than rich people daydreaming....

3.8’s biggest bling is the new planetary tech. I haven’t seen it in the flesh yet, but the trailer below made me want to hop back in my Aurora and see some of the lovely, sharp, desolate moons up close. Though it’s not all suit slicing scree. There are some lush forests in there as well, which I was surprised to see. I didn’t expect to see leaves amidst all this tech....

Electronic Arts just can’t keep a lid on these new space opera games they’ve got hanging in the hangar. A game titled Star Wars: Squadrons popped up on the Microsoft Store today with some key art and the phrase “pilots wanted.” There wasn’t a date associated, but I imagine we can all guess there’s a proper announcement planned for this here Squadrons game in short order, eh? The Squadrons page was briefly up on the Microsoft Store earlier today and was captured and uploaded on Resetera....

You play as the commander of the Mobile Infantry, the original space marines, as they fight a big ol’ horde of Arachnids on the desert mining planet Kwalasha. Both are based mostly on the films’ interpretation (mostly the first and third, probably because the second was awful), so the bugs are armed only with raw biology, and your forces mostly comprised of hapless mooks with personal firearms and little chance of surviving a close encounter....

Announced in January last year, The Day Before looks a lot like your typical open-world zombie survive ’em up. You’ll be jogging about, picking up supplies and offing its wandering brain-eaters. It all looks very The Division 2, so it will be interesting to see how its MMO elements make it stand out compared to Ubisoft’s live service game. In a statement about the game’s delay, developer Fntastic and publisher Mytona said that since “millions of people” have added The Day Before to their Steam wishlists, they now feel a “great responsibility” to deliver on their original premise....

Steam DB dataminer Pavel Djundik originally said that the information is “generally trustworthy, but not fully confirmed.” Djundik later says it’s confirmed, though doesn’t specify how or by whom. Another person on Twitter seems to have come up with the same dates just beforehand, so it seems reasonably likely they’re both correct. Either way, tradition dictates that Steam will have a big blowout summer sale as it does every year and odds are it will be sometime in June....

Below is the first time we’ve seen the game’s combat in action, though. Aside: ‘Spiders’ remains the best name of any videogame development studio. For example, this combat video was shown during tonight’s Nacon Connect and was introduced by Jehanne Rousseau, who gets to say things like, “Hello, I’m Jehanne Rousseau, the president of Spiders.” I’m going to start a company of my own so I can tell people I’m CEO of crayfish....

Along with the diplomatic doodads, Federations adds new things to build including the Mega Shipyard and a Juggernaut ship class which comes with its own manufacturing and repair facilities. Stellaris: Federations is out now on Steam, GOG, and Paradox Plaza for £15.49/€19.99/$19.99. All three stores are currently holding Stellaris sales too, with 75% off the base game and most DLCs half-price. Our Nate and familiar face Nic Reuben are planning to play some Federations together later this week and tell us all about it....

Like everything else this year, on-site plans for this year’s Summer GDQ were postponed, and then scrapped in favour of taking the event wholly online, akin to the one-off Corona Relief Done Quick held back in April. This year’s event is, understandably, a little scaled back from before. A look at the official SGDQ schedule reveals significantly fewer races, and a few notable games are missing outright (where are you, Titanfall 2?...

The developers of Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons and A Way Out filed the trademark application for It Takes Two in May of 2020, and notice of the trademark was published on September 29th. Other parties then have 30 days to file an objection to the trademark. Take-Two Interactive, however, filed for two 90-day extensions to this period, on October 26th, 2020 and January 27th, 2021. These documents are available on the publicly searchable USPTO website....
