The closest I think I get to playing Animal Crossing is playing Stardew Valley. This isn’t a bad trade off, because Stardew Valley is very good, and appears on lots of our bestest best lists (like best RPGs, best management games, and best co-op games). But in the spirit of inquiry, I have been investigating mods which make Stardew Valley feel more like Animal Crossing. Spoilers: you can’t do anything very drastic....
One of the most common crashes seems to relate to players in parties, with reports of groups of over three players causing members of the party to crash to desktop. Developers Infinity Ward acknowledged the issue in a tweet yesterday, and as of a few hours ago say they’ve deployed a fix. “Players in parties should see significant improvement,” says the tweet. The other most significant issue involves the latest Nvidia drivers....
A post by Blizzard Support on the Battle.net forums explains that registering a phone number will be required to play some games, including Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, newly created Overwatch 2 accounts, and new Modern Warfare accounts. Actiblizz say that asking players to register their numbers to limit the number of free accounts they can have “helps keep players accountable for their actions and, in turn, reduces toxicity and cheating”....

I spent years absolutely baffled that barely anyone learned the lessons the original Mount & Blade taught on its release in 2008 (or indeed, several years earlier for a lot of us). “Making combat with swords, axes, spears, and bows fun? Developers Pathea Games include more details in their Steam post, where a screenshot reveals the multiplayer mode actually takes place in a simulation created by Sandrock’s resident nerd, Qi. You’ll enter multiplayer by using the “special equipment” he gives you. This open beta follows a closed alpha test from last September, so Pathea’s post mostly talks about what they’ve added since then....
Developers 24 Entertainment showed off a new trailer for their melee-driven battle royale, Naraka: Bladepoint, at the Future Games Show last night. I expected myself to emit a deep sigh after watching a few seconds of it, but instead, I lapped up the whole thing and didn’t roll my eyes once - remarkable. If you’ve not played it yet, the long and short is that you’re following the story of Maddy the necromancer barista who works in a Melbourne coffee shop where the dead get 24 hours to chat and come to terms with their departure. “Maddy’s story is finished for now, but if you were wondering about those troublesome teens Tuan and Hannah, or the secretive and sultry Samantha, or that guy from the OP with the waistcoat and cigar, wonder no further: we’ll be telling those characters’ stories as well,” Route 59 say in their news post....
And that’s my main issue with New World, really. As someone who’s already invested in Final Fantasy XIV - another huge MMORPG - I never felt a pang to jump ship to New World. I don’t want to drop FFXIV’s incredibly nice community and rich, Moogle-filled universe for New World’s Aeternum. I get that, as someone who’s already invested in FFXIV, I may have a strong bias. But still, if New World is going to succeed, surely it needs to reel in players like me who believe they’ve already found the MMO for them?...

All I can see is a world where every game of Fortnite is a hundred little Ninjas, all killing each other, forever. Because today Fortnite announced they are doing something called the Icon Series, where they “bring the artistic vision, personality and attitude of our top creators to Fortnite.” Starting with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins. Soon everyone will be Blevins. Cards on the table: I do not understand Ninja’s appeal. The man is really, really fucking good at playing Fornite, and I would never take that away from him, but I think he is a terrible streamer....
Capcom filled folks in today in a post on Twitter, saying that they’ve heard fan requests for cross-play and cross-progress features between Switch and PC. “Unfortunately, after looking into it throughout the development process, we found we are unable to implement it this time,” they say. The need to set expectations comes from a survey that Capcom asked fans to fill out after their Tokyo Games Show appearance at the end of September....
There are a heck of a lot of additions in the Frontiers update but the planetary settlements are the big central cog connecting most of them. Inhabited planets all across the universe now have procedurally generated towns full of space folks on them. There are quite a lot of new building pieces too. Hundreds, Hello Games say. New sets based on timber, stone and alloy materials all have their own look....

King Of Seas’ opening section is rather story laden, but it’s fairly barebones (or should I say skull-and-crossbones) after that. The basic premise is that you are the child of the previous incumbent King Of Seas. After father dearest is murdered the blame is pinned on you, so you set sail to find the scheming scallywags who framed you and clear your name. The bulk of the game involves nautical combat, collecting resources and upgrading your ship....
Deston is an 8km x 8km map that features a fair few different biomes, most of which are watery. There’s a flooded city called Ripton with massive skyscrapers to scale using the new ascender ropes, along with grim swamps, coastal regions with islands, and a mountainous interior. Other points of interest to explore include a concert ground that’s staging the Chickysound festival, a hydroelectric dam, and a paintball arena. Some areas of Deston are only accessible using drones....
