The Nine Sols demo begins with a splat. You, a warrior cat, are dangling off a cliff edge as an evil ronin cat watches on. They say something inaudible – probably, “try jumping”, if I were to guess - and watch you fall. An aerial shot confirms that, yes, your guts are now vulture pickings. Suddenly, some magical tentacles sprout from the earth and slide you into their embrace. After an unspecified amount of time later, a boy playing a flute sees your eyes spring open amidst the rocks....

Last year’s Guerrilla Collective was quite a mix of big and small studios. As a refresher, here’s every PC game trailer that came out of last summer’s event. Larian Studios showed up with a bit on Baldur’s Gate 3 prior to its early access launch later in the year. As I say, we’ve not been blessed with early access to the game ourselves, but really: every review I’ve read calls out an unexpected and unpleasant quantity of bugs. They range from small silly ones like T-posing and physics freakouts to some missions being unfinishable and straight-up crashes. GameSpot call it “phenomenally buggy”. PC Gamer say it is “absolutely sick with bugs.” IGN say it has “loads of distracting bugs”....

Straight off the bat, this XFX GPU is quite a bit larger than AMD’s reference design for the RX 6700 XT, measuring 323x132x51mm. Indeed, if I hadn’t already removed some of the HDD cages from my case in order to test some of the larger third party models of Nvidia’s RTX 30 series, I definitely would have had to do so to fit the Speedster Merc 319 Black Edition in my PC properly....

And now I’ve revisited the action-RPG on PC, I’m not surprised at my response. This is easily the most intimate Yakuza game of the lot. There’s no bouncing around different playable beefcakes, or upholding your position in Japan’s criminal underworld; the focus is on family, and punching anyone who dares threaten them - as is Kiryu’s way. Yakuza 6’s plot is immediately compelling, even if you’re new to Kazuma Kiryu’s punch-laden saga....

The 84 year old started sharing her Skyrim games in 2015, and her warm, joyful videos made her famous enough to get her own mod, and even a role in the next Elder Scrolls game. She’s racked up over 800,000 subscribers on YouTube, but only a tiny percentage are active viewers, and the work and pressure involved are affecting her health. As she explained on her channel earlier this month, her enthusiasm has been worn down by the time and energy it’s taking, and doubts about who’s watching and why she’s even doing it....

Very few bubbles in Mexico, though: It looks pretty, with some extremely detailed rocks, but more importantly it looks like Forza Horizon. I enjoyed Horizon 4 enough that I’m not looking for Playground Games to reinvent the wheel or any other part of the car. FH5 looks like it again offers the chilled-out fun of speeding across an open landscape while earning points for literally any action, including smashing through every object in your path....

Like previous Next Fests, we’ve only had access to a small portion of the full February Next Fest slate ahead of time, and what you’ll see below is a selection of games that stood out to us the most in that early slice. There are no doubt loads more great demos to play across the next week and a bit that we haven’t covered here (as well as some like The Great War: Western Front whose demos we wrote about in more detail last week), so if you happen across something neat, be sure to shout about it in the comments....

The leaked footage popped up on Reddit yesterday and, rather unsurprisingly, was hastily taken down. It wasn’t removed quickly enough, however, as there are still plenty of videos of the leak (like the one below) if you fancy taking a look for yourself: Naturally, these vids are receiving copyright strikes from Ubisoft almost as soon as they appear, so it’s entirely possible that one might be gone before I even hit publish on this article....

1) Redstone Golem Another mob, the Redstone Golem is one of Minecraft Dungeons’ bosses, and makes the Iron Golem - which villagers currently create to defend their pathetic collections of hovels from zombies - look like a total disgrace. RG is big, red and angry, and would make a fantastic underworld counterpart to Minecraft’s current roster of boss monsters. After all, nobody goes to the End to fight its slightly rubbish looking dragon, and the Elder Guardians, who are sort of cyclopian fish with skin conditions, only show up if you decide to loot an underwater temple....

The hack took just a small file replacement and a change of an in-game setting, which CS interpreted as an instruction to make other player models visible through regardless of any obstacles, a bit like a floating HUD marker. The cheat (yes it is, come on) was exposed by YouTube user “DepoSit”, who created a detailed video demonstrating it in action and how to do it. It’s in Russian, but it’s pretty clear what’s going on....

But ha, now look at me! Curled in my chair like a shrimp and about to finish The Witcher 3 after five long years. It has taken a monumental effort, but I can finally tick off the game everyone bangs on about and move onto the next game that everyone has already started banging on about, Cyberpunk 2077.

Publisher Microïds announced the Vertigo adventure game back in 2018, at the same time revealing they’d licensed Alfred Hitchcock’s name and likeness for it. Back then, they said it was “loosely based” on Vertigo, though from the sounds of things, “loosely” might be underselling it. “The main themes of the game are roughly the same ones that appear in the movie: obsession, madness, manipulation, identity, and the confusion between imagination, dreams, memory and reality,” narrative designer Josué Monchan says in a dev diary....
